Jamie Foxx and Channing Tatum talk superheroes; Sinister Six and Gambit among them

Sep. 13, 2013by: Paul Shirey

While promoting WHITE HOUSE DOWN, actors Jamie Foxx and Channing Tatum were posed with the question of superheroes, to which they gave some interesting answers. For Foxx, the question was about the possibility of seeing The Sinister Six in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN franchise (it's got to be a forgone conclusion by now), to which he replied with a wink:

"Yes, they actually talked about it, the Sinister Six. So, fingers crossed, because when you think about it, electricity never dies, it just goes to a different place [wink]."

Tatum was asked if he'd like to get in on the superhero action, to which he responded with an affirmative, going on to say that he'd like to take on the role of Gambit, previously played by Taylor Kitsch in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE. Tatum, who is from Louisiana, says he would like to use a "real" cajun accent and gives props to Kitsch at the same time. I thought Kitsch was fine as Gambit, but they certainly didn't give him enough time in ORIGINS to really establish himself. I know Gambit is a fan favorite, but I'm not quite sure he's ready for a solo film.

Do you think Tatum would make a good Gambit or should he stick to stripping acting in other films?

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 opens on May 2, 2014.

I think it only counts as a spoiler if the actor playing the villain gives away that he *doesn't* die at the end :p

Gambit fan, with the right makeup work he could def pull it off, Tatum staring in a solo Gambit film, on par with.... the Wolverine. I'm so down for this.

I've been saying this since the first Xmen...

GUY PEARCE would make the PERFECT gambit. He's got the right look and the acting chops to pull off the accent and not have it sound corny. They may want to go a younger route at this point though. Oh well, it worked in my head!

Meh, I love me some Guy Pearce but.... I can think of 10 better superhero roles for him than Gambit.

All I can think of when I see that picture of Jamie Foxx is, it looks like he has morning breath.

The Sinister Six would be great to see and would help the new franchise finally differentiate itself from Raimi's franchise.

I would not want to see Tatum as Gambit. I would be fine with him playing another superhero, but not Gambit. I just don't think he could fit Gambit's style and/or persona. Josh Holloway or Alexander Skarsgaard would make for excellent Gambit's and if we ever do get to see the character on the big screen again, then hopefully those two are considered.

Not from Louisiana

Just wanted to point out Tatum isn't from Louisiana...he's from Cullman, Alabama. They do local news stories on him down here every now and then

Josh Holloway would be the perfect fit for Gambit

Think about it Josh Holloway does a good job with mysterious and guarded on Lost, he's a con artist another trait you can align with Gambit, in my mind Josh is the only actor who could really live in and inhabit that character.

I'm game for the Sinister Six, but very unsure of Tatum as Gambit. I maybe could see him pulling off Cable, maybe even a rebooted version of Cyclops, but not Gambit.

I could see Tatum trying his best with the whole Gambit swagger, but I just can't see him pulling it off. Gambit has been completely wasted in the X-Men movies.

Both very interesting. Personally, if this was done much earlier, I would have picked Van Damme for Gambit.

Don't think he'd be a good Gambit. Gambit needs to be dangerous, slinky, twinkle-in-his-eye type. Channing Tatum comes off as more of a beefcake and could do well with a more traditional brawny superhero role as MickLoud suggests.

Not sure if Channing Tatum could pull of Gambit. He can definitely pull off the action hero stuff, but I don't think he has quite the same charisma and suave personality needed to play Gambit. Also, I don't think anyone is clamoring for Gambit to have his own solo film, I think people just want him to be in the X-Men films and developed into a significant role. Which would be a good idea IMO. I know why they have held off on using him since he somewhat echoes the anti-hero role currently

Which would be a good idea IMO. I know why they have held off on using him since he somewhat echoes the anti-hero role currently filled by Wolverine. However, Hugh Jackman is already hinting that he may be approaching his final entry as Wolverine, so introducing Gambit to the films may be a good way of replacing that anti-hero character, without dealing with the backlash of recasting Wolverine.

Gambit joining the team its like a must already. And to me Taylor was pretty fine in the real, I really liked his stuff in that movie, none can deny he has that handsome look of Remy and at the same time, Taylor can play the charming, flirting Remy most fans love. He just needs better scenes, and to get the black/red eyes, another must for the character, its part of his iconic look. Same as the cajun accent.
