Jamie Foxx will write, produce, and direct a horror anthology series for SyFy

Jamie Foxx is the last name I expected to be associated with a horror series on SyFy, but I also never expected to utter the words Best Actor winner before him name either. This was the guy from IN LIVING COLOR and the shitty WB sitcom that bears him name and now he is going to be the villain in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2. I have grown to like Foxx as an actor, but he still is able to surprise with these kinds of projects.

The untitled series will feature Foxx acting as writer, producer, and director on the series which is set to premiere this October with five episodes. There is no word as to whether this will be a recurring series or a limited run project. Deadline reports the anthology will take a cue from classic series such as THE TWILIGHT ZONE and TALES FROM THE CRYPT and will tell tales with morals such as envy, jealousy, and superficiality.

Foxx had this to say about the show:

“This is a project that I’ve wanted to do for a long time and I’m so happy to see it come to life,” Foxx said. “Get ready to lose it when some special friends and I bring the scares this October, and who knows… maybe I’ll make a guest appearance or two along the way!”

SyFy announced numerous new projects including a series based on the Tim Allen movie GALAXY QUEST, a mini-series based on Arthur C. Clarke’s CHILDHOOD’S END, and one based on Larry Niven’s RINGWORLD. SyFy’s series have always come across as low budget to me but the scope of projects they are looking to develop is definitely ambitious.

What do you think about Jamie Foxx bringing the anthology horror series back to television?
