Following the cancellation of Arrested Development over a decade ago, rumours persisted that the show would find a way to return, either as a feature film or for an additional season. Netflix wound up coming to the rescue and resurrected the series for a fourth season which debuted four years ago, and almost immediately, there was talk of a fifth. It was hard enough to wrangle the schedules of Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Alia Shawkat,Tony Hale, David Cross, Jeffrey Tambor and Jessica Walter for the Netflix season, and it would prove to be a stumbling block when it came time for get the band together once again. Everyone clearly wanted to do it, but with such a large ensemble, it would take a bit of effort to coordinate their schedules.

After Arrested Development executive producer Brian Grazer teased back in January that they were "really close" to announcing the fifth season of the series, it seems that the ball is finally rolling. Jason Bateman took to Twitter to announce that he has signed on for the fifth season of Arrested Development.

With Jason Bateman officially on-board, I would hope that we'll soon hear that the rest of the cast will be back as well. We still don't know exactly what a fifth season of Arrested Development will bring, but creator Mitch Hurwitz has previously said that it would be a "serialized murder mystery."

By far the most wasted tv show that I can think of. While I warmed up to the last season Netflix put out. I hope they have all the actors do each episode as a group

I didn't hate the fourth season but let's just hope season five actually has the entire cast as an ensemble this time! - I've heard rumors that they are going to split each episode up with a prequel element casting the characters with younger actors. I kind of hope that's not true ...

We could have had a season five years ago if Fox wasn't so foolish to cancel the series in the first place.

As Long as They Don't Shoot it Lucas Style Again

My biggest issue with the fourth season, other than the Michael/George Michael's story line, was the CGI inserts of actors not in the same scenes. That was a huge distraction for me. But, even on its worst day, Arrested Development is better than most shows on TV so, this is good news.

I think that was green screen, not CGI, but the reason I wasn't that upset about it was because they did what they had to do to put together the show. The cast all have other movies and TV shows and it's hard to gather them all together because of those busy schedules. They had to improvise, and unfortunately that meant using green screen to incorporate actors into the scenes. Hopefully, this time, the cast's schedule will be more flexible.

as much as people didnt like the fourth season, i will admit that it does get better upon a second and third viewing. The fourth season actually does a good job of playing into the binge watching nature of todays viewing audience, just like the original show played well into the episodic nature of the early '00s

I wont call season 4 the best season, but its good television and does live up to the standards set by the original run
