Jason Clarke joins Kathryn Bigelow’s Bin Laden Movie

Jason Clarke (PUBLIC ENEMIES, DEATH RACE) is the first person to be cast in Kathryn Bigelow’s still untitled Bin Laden movie. Likely he will be playing one of the Navy Seals that we join on the hunt for Bin Laden.

Mark Boal (THE HURT LOCKER) wrote the script which was recently updated to include the real operation that took down Osama Bin Laden. Boal is producing with Megan Ellison and Greg Shaprio and the plan is to start production early next year in order to get it out by the end of 2012. The only trouble is apparently trying to find actors that have their schedules free.

Actors in talks right now include Tom Hardy, Idris Elba, Rooney Mara, Jennifer Ehle, Guy Pearce and Nina Arianda.

I’m really happy to see Bigelow finally get some notice after THE HURT LOCKER, and I do really enjoy that flick, but I wish she’d return to her more fun (and visceral) flicks like NEAR DARK and POINT BREAK. But hell, I’ll take another serious war movie from her.
