Jason Momoa has written the Conan the Barbarian sequel

08.08.2011by:

He's not just good looks and muscles, CONAN THE BARBARIAN and Game of Throne star Jason Momoa is trying his hand at writing, having scripted the sequel to CONAN THE BARBARIAN already.

You know, we see sequels greenlit and planned for all the time, but mostly it's for superhero films that are SURE to draw an audience, and I'm not sure Conan falls into that category. But nevertheless, those behind the film, including Momoa, are anticipating it to be enough of a success for another go, and here's what he has in mind for the next chapter.

"It will mostly be… It’s character-adapted, because I really want to get into more of the mythical creatures, you know? [...] We wanted to go there [in the first one], but having Clash of the Titans, and coming out against that, we wanted to put the budget into some other things. [...] I don’t want to give anything away, but we already have our Conan, really it’s about the villain, what that villain is going to extract from Conan, and where as an actor I want to go with Conan. [...] So, I think we have a good lock on it. Also, I feel it’s beautiful… How many actors get to go in there and go, “I’m part of the writing process?” and care that much about the character, because he is a fan himself? It’s great. You know some people go like, “It’s great, I’m going to be in my trailer.” I want to @#$%ing make a great Conan movie."

Do you think CONAN will end up being worthwhile? I haven't seen anything from the trailers or clips that particularly jumps out at me, but I could be surprised.

Extra Tidbit: Will we ever see someone who is as awesome as Arnold was as an action star?

I'm really hoping this movie turns out well, and I like that Momoa is showing that level of commitment to this character. It reminds me of the way Stallone helped guide the Rambo/Rocky films. I think he's gonna rock it as Conan, and I'd love for this to become a new franchise as I do love a good swords and sorcery EPIC.

You know what?

Kudos to him! It's great to see an actor not only genuinely enjoy the character he's playing, but take control of his future and writing the next chapter in this character's life. Hope te first film is successful. haters are always going to hate those prettier than them anyways :P

Your avatar sucks. There is a reason why he did not get the role. Because he is a horrible actor.

See, this is awesome. Like Arnold, Jason looks like a damn Barbarian but is actually very intelligent. If Momoa can play to this advantage as well as Arnold, he could go far.

Conan and Fright Night are gonna cannibalize each other at the box office. It's gonna get ugly. Terrible release dates.

Don't picture a writer with Momoa, but, perhaps he will surprise. Having doubts about the first movie though, want it to be good, but it probably wont.

it could work...

the dude looked fucking huge on game of thrones. He was entertaining on stargate, but the trailers for the new conan seems a bit...meh to me.

Good for him!! His work on game of thrones was awesome and I'm sure he'll make an awesome conan. I think this will be a suprise hit this summer like "planet of the apes" has. Hopfully cause I'd love to see more conan.

While the trailers and clips haven't particularly impressed me, I haven't been turned off by the marketing yet. Also, it's pretty cool that the star of a hopeful franchise can get so involved so early.

I gotta say

This has nothing to do with the article but in Game of Thrones, it was so cool how easily he lifted Danaery up and onto that horse during the Dothraki wedding. It was just hands on waist and whhhooouup! onto the horse with the same effort as lifting a child. Anyway, I am sure that whatever he does will do good. Maybe someday, he will star opposite "The Rock"

If the sequel is made, I hope it will be as fun as Conan the Destroyer. As for extra tidbit, I don't think you can have any action star that has such colossal impact to compare to Arnold or Stallone. Arnold, Stallone, Bruce Willis and Van Damme - these are legends.

I agree, that's awesome for him to do

but the only bad part is that the movie looks like crap. From all the clips I've seen to the trailers and even the posters [link] none of it looks good.
I love the fact that they went for the gory, R-rated action film and I've been dying to see more of those, but I was so disappointed by the trailers and clips from this one that even if everything I haven't seen winds up to be good, it'll be dragged down by the parts that I have seen, because they just aren't good, unfortunately.

Momoa was decent in GoT, but all he did was grunt and speak in a made up language.

So far all the info on Conan points to complete and utter gayness. Even if he is a good writer, he's trying to salvage something that even the best writers would have a hard time making not silly.

Conan won't have a sequel. If something as successful as 'Superman Returns' couldn't get a sequel, neither will this.

Superman Returns was a bigger movie and flopped stateside, considering the budget and marketing campaign. Conan isn't banking on a high-profile director, and August is the best time to premier a hard-R action movie. I'm not saying it'll make enough fora sequel, but your comparison doesn't quite make sense to me.

Can we please cool it with all the damned "Superman Returns" talk as of late?

In the US, while it got decent reviews (a 73% on RT, while fresh, isn't exactly stellar), it did not do all that well box office-wise, with a lot of fans coming down extremely hard on the film It did make a profit, but that's mostly from foregin markets.

It will not be getting a goddamned sequel, so can we please stop talking about it?

More power to you for liking it, but personally, I hated everything about save

Wonderful logic. Absolutely mindblowing how spot on your prediction is. If one movie that came out a while ago didn't get a sequel, why would ANYTHING ever get one? Fuck you're smart.

Yeah, because people that are in great physical condition are incapable of possessing intelligence. Let me guess...you're an out-of-shape, pasty white, IT geek. Am I close? I am...aren't I?
