Jason Reitman and Diablo Cody reteam for Young Adult with Charlize Theron

08.03.2010

The duo of Jason Reitman (UP IN THE AIR) and Diablo Cody (JENNIFER'S BODY), the ones that brought us 2007's JUNO, are hoping to get back together, this time with the delectable Charlize Theron (MAD MAX: FURY ROAD), to tell the story of a "ghostwriter of young adult novels" called, appropriately enough, YOUNG ADULT.

The story, according to Deadline's Mike Fleming, follows "a ghostwriter of young adult novels who realizes she has no identity with her pseudonym and plots to reclaim her identity. Her campaign involves going back and rekindling a relationship with her high school boyfriend--who's freshly married, is a new father, and wants no part of her. While she works on her plan, the ghostwriter reengages with high school acquaintances and their experiences in trying to carry out all those high school hopes and dreams that often get crushed by the realities of life." Reitman will direct the Cody script with Theron expected to star as the ghostwriter.

YOUNG ADULT is looking to begin production in New York this November.

On the one hand: Jason Reitman.
On the other hand: Diablo Cody.

I'll wait for a trailer.

I've warmed up to Cody over the past year, having started to enjoy Juno for what it is after its over-exploited peak period, having A-graded Jennifer's Body (for a goofy horror movie, at least), and having just gotten into United States of Tara, which is amazing.

I thought I was far from her bandwagon, but she's not so much of the hack as I led myself to believe.

Gag

Reitman, don't let the fact that you're clearly boning this girl cloud your judgment regarding your choice in projects. Look at RR and Rose McGowan....

"ghostwriter of young adult novels"

Ugggh, this screams super annoying dialogue from Cody. I liked Juno, but her banter gets older and less tolerable every time I see it.

Nope

Cody = fail. "Juno" was terrible and she's a fraud anyway. To each his own, I guess.

Could Be Good

Up In The Air was one of my favourite films of the past year, if Diablo can turn down the pop culture references just a tad this could be really good. With charlize Theron in it I will watch it anyway, hell i even sat through Aeon Flux so I'm there.

How exactly is she a "fraud", oakraidr?
I get it if you don't care for her movies, but to claim that she hasn't worked for her success is ridiculous.

They have teen pregnancy in common, and the name Juno. But there's no focus on adoption and the couple try to raise the kid themselves.

Exact same film came out in Korea two years before her precious film. Look it up if you want.
