Jason Reitman's Young Adult gets an official plot

May. 18, 2011by: Paul Tassi

I don't think we've updated Jason Reitman's next project, YOUNG ADULT, in almost a year, so it's probably time to revisit it now that a new plot synopsis has been released.

The film reteams Reitman with his JUNO collaborate Diablo Cody, and the film is set to star Charlize Theron. Since then, Patton Oswalt and Patrick Wilson have joined the cast, and now we get to hear officially what it's all about.

Academy Award® winner Charlize Theron plays Mavis Gary, a writer of teen literature who returns to her small hometown to relive her glory days and attempt to reclaim her happily married high school sweetheart (Patrick Wilson). When returning home proves more difficult than she thought, Mavis forms an unusual bond with a former classmate (Patton Oswalt) who hasn’t quite gotten over high school, either.

Sounds interesting enough, and with the Young Adult lit angle I can see why Cody has been brought onboard. Interesting to see Patton Oswalt in a role like this. I guess Reitman must have been a big fan of BIG FAN.

Extra Tidbit: I think Cody's style is unique and can work, but it also seems to overwhelm everything else in the movie.

I didn't even read the article. Theron's picture wants me to green this on it's own.

I hated Juno but I'm an avid fan of United States of Tara and I also enjoyed Jennifer's Body when I caught it on cable. Maybe this can be good?

I'll be skipping this. I can't stand Diablo Cody's (made-up) name or her writing.

I agree with the tidbit. some restraint might make her less polarizing.
