Exclusive: Jason's dad Elias is "on the table" for next Friday The 13th film

06.01.2016

jason voorhees, friday the 13th, jason

Rumors are quickly starting to swirl about what Platinum Dunes' plans are for the next FRIDAY THE 13TH movie. With producer Brad Fuller making the press rounds the past couple of weeks and a few tidbits of information regarding a Jason Voorhees sequel on the horizon being dropped here and there, fans have been fiending to know exactly what is in the mix for when we see the masked slasher again.

Rumblings have mostly come from Fuller's comments to The Reel Word on the next flick dealing with Jason's origin story in some capacity. "Origin-ish, but it’s an origin that no one has seen before. Obviously Pamela’s there, but it’s a little bit different from what you’ve seen before.”

Stacked on top of that comes word from Birth.Movies.Death's Devin Faraci that "Aaron Guzikowski's script for the reboot includes Jason's dad, Elias"... that is, according to his sources close to the production.

Now, not too long ago, I had a chance to sit down with Brad Fuller myself for my other project This Is Infamous and FRIDAY THE 13TH certainly came up, and what I was told by him directly was that they had received the script from Aaron Guzikowski a few weeks ago. Both Platinum Dunes and Paramount sent back their notes to him, and they were still waiting for the next draft.

With the rumor mill beginning to churn, I went right back to the source today to get clarification and/or confirmation on what might be happening with Jason's dad and the current draft of the script. I just got off the phone with Brad Fuller and was told specifically that Elias "is something that has been on the table" but is far from a certainty at this point. He is a character they have discussed incorporating into the next film, but given that they are still waiting for that next draft to come back, they are "still very far away from making any definite decisions."

Elias is a character we have never seen in a FRIDAY THE 13TH film before (although he has been referenced in the past). He would certainly fit into this exploration of Jason's origin "with a twist." However, there are still a number of options being considered as to what direction this next film even takes, in trying to craft a FRIDAY THE 13TH flick that will please its fans. Does that mean going back to Jason's beginnings? Does that mean heading back to Camp Crystal Lake and brutalizing a new batch of teenagers?

Elias Voorhees is one such element... But he's not the only one.

The thought of the producers actually injecting Jason's dad as a potential masked accomplice/other Jason in this movie crossed my mind. *shudder*

This will be cool to finally see

They were *this* close to doing this in several of the old movies, and the script always described him as a 'Rasputin-looking man'.

Back away slowly....

Most everything Platinum Dunes touches, turns into a shiny, pretty piece of crap. Fuller and company are just cashing in on established franchises because they cost little to make and almost guarantee a profit. They really haven't shown me anything to suggest that they respect these horror icons and classic films.

It's a F@&$in Friday the 13th movie!!!

Not a Comic book franchise!
Call it Part 13. Teens are stalked by Jason returning to the "grounds" of Cystal Lake. Have a relatable "final girl" for a Killer finale.
See if Cory Fieldman and Kane Hodder are up for returning.
Leave room for a sequel...
Low budget. Release on a Friday the 13th.
Count money from the boxoffice.
Move on...

This sounds awful; we don't need an origins story for Jason. If you don't know it by now this far into the franchise, then your loss.

This film should bring back Tommy Jarvis and set some of the film in the winter; which is a season setting we've never seen Jason kill before in.

It's a Friday the 13th film. They want to do something different! Which I can totally appreciate! Tommy Jarvis is shit character. Didn't mind him in part 4 (Cory Feldman) 5 & 6 he's awful. They aren't trying to make the godfather of Friday the 13th. Tits, sex, drinking/drugs and killing. That's a Friday the 13th film.

We know the origin story. I am interested to see his father turn up but only when jason is an adult. Don't do what Rob Zombie did to Halloween

Oh my fucking Shit

These people are fools. We need to steal the rights back. We don't need to 'understand' Jason Vorhees. We want to watch him kill with little to no explanation. Fuck this douche Brad Fuller.
