Javier Bardem and James Franco rumored for Clash of the Titans sequel?

Nov. 8, 2010by: Dave Davis

The remake of CLASH OF THE TITANS managed to reel in some impressive talent, so it's no surprise that Warner Bros. is trying it again with the follow-up WRATH OF THE TITANS (as it's apparently going by).

The sequel to the mythological monster mash is gearing up, and according to a Production Weekly tweet, the studio is aiming at people like James Franco and Oscar-winner Javier Bardem for roles (Franco as Agenor, Bardem for war god Ares).

These are obviously just "wish list" names for the moment (and Bardem honestly doesn't really seem like a match for fantasy material, while Franco will probably be an even hotter property post-127 HOURS), so we shouldn't expect anything to firm up. But if true, it's a good sense of the development direction. And after Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes, why not?

Jonathan Liebesman (TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING and upcoming BATTLE: LOS ANGELES) is directing, and is shooting in 3D as opposed to the substandard conversion of the first movie. Presumably, original star Sam Worthington will return for more hacking of practical and CG creatures.

Extra Tidbit

I sure as hell hope not- it's one of the worst films of the year (4th to be exact). It was a bore, looked awful, had terrible acting, and made positively no goddamn sense. Also, the only decent thing (Gemma Arterton was ok acting and looks-wise), is also the most pointless part of the film. Fuck this movie, and fuck the sequel.

Franco is the man

James Franco has established himself as someone who can do absolutely anything and it would never hurt his career. He can do the shittiest most corporate movie ever, which a lot of a-listers would never go near and it would not hurt his image one bit. This guy is the definition of versatile

Eh.

Thought it was gonna be way better then it was. Luckily i didnt see it in 3D. Story line was awful, semi cool effects, acting was meh, and the fight scenes were very underwhelming.

If its true, they'll be wasted like Neeson and Fiennes were in the first film. I hope it doesnt happen. Its not like they needed those roles to boost their career.

I enjoyed it. The biggest problem with it was the terrible post-converted 3D, which made the colors and effects look awful. But I rewatched it on Blu-ray recently, and I honestly think it's a decent, fun movie. I don't get all the hate for Sam Worthington. Downrank me if you must, but I liked it.

Clash of the Titans was one of the more boring and soulless movies I've seen this year, but I'd be on-board for a sequel if some improvements were made.

Trash of the Titans was excruciating swill. I hold no hope for this. They pissed away Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson and they'll do it with these two gents.

The effort they are going to over an unnecessary sequel to an unnecessary remake, would have been so much better for everyone to just make a God of War movie.

Bardem = Kratos

Shit. I always saw Javier as the perfect candidate to play Kratos if they ever got around to making a God Of War flick. Then again, I hope they never make God Of War into a film with the way studios tend to f**k things up.

Loved is much to strong a word. I felt the same way about the remake as I did the original - meh, s'ok. If they redid the horrific 3d conversion into something decent, I'd definately pick the 3d Bluray - and like it.

I don't think the film deserves all the hate it gets. It was a fun film. Had some flaws, yes, but fun none the less.

the movie was re-edited against his will... HIS cut was way better (if we are to believe those who saw it). So WARNER is much more to blame than Leterrier...

Good to see they learnt there 3D conversion lesson and are going to actually shoot this in 3D. Wise move.

WRATH of the Titans?

Come on. At least make an entirely original title and hope this film redeems the franchise when looked back upon years from now.

Javier Bardem not cut for fantasy material!? Go see him as Romeo Dolorosa in Perdita Durango at once. This man has played just about any possible human type and he makes them all interesting. Like Mads Mikkelsen he could make even a lousy fantasy film watchable. And he would be a hell of a great Ares.

I thought the remake was a real mess, it had so much talent but definitely let it go to waste. I'm optimistic that a sequel could make up for a lot of the trash we got, and Bardem and Franco sound like a good way to start out.

I liked it, but most of the movie felt butchered. I am surprised that there hasn't been a director's cut that has been released yet. I wouldn't mind seeing Bardem and Franco in the sequel.

I didn't

I blame studio interference for the butchered final cut of the film. If a director's cut was released that was much better than the theatrical cut, than maybe I could be up for a sequel. For now, color me uninterested.

I Did

Sure it was essentially "God Of War" and probably as cheesy (or more?) than the original, but I really enjoyed the movie and its take on the Greek monsters. But then again, I'm easily entertained.

"But then again, I'm easily entertained"

I'll give you credit, at least you admitted it.
