Goon sequel could be a f**ked up cross between Heathers & The Mighty Ducks

Goon: Last of the Enforcers

Despite my Canadian roots, I've just never been all that interested in hockey, but hockey movies, I'm all over those for some reason, and GOON: LAST OF THE ENFORCERS is the latest example of a hugely entertaining hockey movie. The Jay Baruchel directed flick has already been released in Canada, but its U.S. debut is quickly approaching and /Film had the opportunity to speak with Baruchel about the franchise's future. Baruchel revealed that there are still three other massive GOON stories which they've fleshed out, including "half a dozen other characters and then about a dozen different arcs and jokes for all the team. We still have way more story than we were able to fit into two movies." Can we get on these right away please?

Jay Baruchel described one of those potential sequels as a f**ked up cross between HEATHERS and THE MIGHTY DUCKS which would follow Doug (Seann William Scott) and Ava's (Alison Pill) daughter.

It has to be organic, but I will say this, we have a very deep world we’re very proud of. If the world wants us to, we’d do it again in a heart beat. We know exactly what we would do. Given the chance, we could do this for a while, or just hold off for 15 years and come back and do the third one, which if we got to, would be about Doug and Eva’s daughter. It’d be a fucked up cross between Heathers and The Mighty Ducks. It’s a teen high school comedy about how hard is it come of age, how hard it is to be a girl in high school, especially when you’re six-foot-two and you’re the hardest hockey player on the team for the boys. I think that could be something awesome. There are about four other arcs between number two and that one we’d like to tell.

As I wasn't expecting to love GOON nearly as much as I did, I would absolutely welcome more stories in the world of Doug Glatt and the Halifax Highlanders. Will we ever see them? Who knows, but I'll be keeping my hockey sticks crossed, well, if I had any.

GOON: LAST OF THE ENFORCERS also stars Alison Pill, Marc-André Grondin, Wyatt Russell, Callum Keith Rennie, Jason Jones, Jay Baruchel, Elisha Cuthbert, Kim Coates, and Liev Schreiber. Our own Chris Bumbray reviewed the sequel earlier this year and called it, "a bold, energetic sequel that seems to be patterned somewhat on ROCKY II."

The official synopis for GOON: LAST OF THE ENFORCERS:

After one too many injuries, hockey enforcer Doug Glatt (Seann William Scott) is forced to give up his aspirations of going to the big show and settle into a buttoned down career as an insurance salesman at the urging of his pregnant wife Eva (Alison Pill). However, Doug can't resist the siren call of the Highlanders, so he sets course to reclaim his former glory.

GOON: LAST OF THE ENFORCERS will hit select theaters in the U.S. and on Digital HD/On Demand on September 1, 2017.
