Well, after ‘retiring’ it looks like Jay-Z is going back into the studio to put out a ‘concept album’ to tie in with the release of Ridley Scott’s AMERICAN GANGSTER. The legendary rapper said that “It was like I was watching the film, and putting it on pause, and giving a back story to the story… It immediately clicked with me… Like ‘Scarface,’ or any one of those films, you take the good out of it, and you can see it as an inspiring film.” Jay-Z has no role in the film, but this is great news because he makes incredible music. Anything that gets him back in the studio is good news. Scott has said in the past that the rappers that do make an appearance in the film (TI, RZA and Common) were cast in order to try and help the film appeal to a wider audience, and I’m sure when Jay-Z’s music videos hit MTV, they’ll do the same. Although how much help Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington need is up for debate. The dudes behind the posters obviously felt that they didn’t even need their faces to sell the movie. AMERICAN GANGSTER hits cinemas on 2nd November.
