Jeff Bridges to host Saturday Night Live in December

While it's normally interesting news when "Saturday Night Live" announces its upcoming hosts, it's not necessarily news. But this, I thought was particularly worthing of passing along. Jeff Bridges will host SNL on December 18th as he's promoting both of his late-year entries TRON: LEGACY and TRUE GRIT.

Bridges' hosting is particularly interesting because it marks the first time the Oscar-winner will host the show by himself. The only other time he's appeared on SNL was back in 1983 when he co-hosted with brother Beau. The 27 years between hosting appearances will make it the longest such streak, beating out Sigourney Weaver who returned to host last season.

Bridges is one of the big A-listers who hadn't returned to SNL that they've always tried to convince to return. Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Jack Nicholson and Julia Roberts are some of the other actors they're struggling to get to appear.

No word on the musical guest yet but given that he's a talented musician as well, why not let him pull double duty? (Yeah, that's probably not happening.)
