Jennifer Jason Leigh lands lead role in Quentin Tarantino’s Hateful Eight

Quentin Tarantino Hateful Eight

Quentin Tarantino’s Western THE HATEFUL EIGHT is only a couple of months away from the start of production and his female lead has officially been cast. Jennifer Jason Leigh (FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH, LAST EXIT TO BROOKLYN, MIAMI BLUES) has landed the much sought after role. The Wrap reports that Michelle Williams, Hilary Swank, Robin Wright, and Demi Moore were among those going after the part. Still no word on that Jennifer Lawrence rumor that sounded too good to be true.

The Hateful Eight follows the steadily ratcheting tension that develops after a blizzard diverts a stagecoach from its route, trapping a pitiless and mistrustful group, which includes a competing pair of bounty hunters, a renegade Confederate soldier and a female prisoner in a saloon in the middle of nowhere.

Jennifer Jason Leigh will play the part of Daisy Domergue who is wanted for murder and due to hang for her crimes. She stars alongside expected Tarantino regulars and greats such as Samuel L. Jackson (Major Warren), Kurt Russell (John Ruth), Tim Roth (Oswaldo Mobray), Michael Madsen (Joe Gage) and Walton Goggins (Chris Mannix), Denis Ménochet (Bob) and Bruce Dern (General Smithers).

I think it’s a great choice; Leigh has always struck me as a highly underrated actress. Her role in DOLORES CLAIBORNE is the first of many great performances that come to mind when I think of her. I’m sure she’s going to do great and I can’t wait to see it.

What do you think about the casting choice?

THE HATEFUL EIGHT will hit theaters sometime in 2015.
