Jennifer Lawrence to make her directorial debut with Project Delirium

11.25.2015

With THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY - PART 2 wrapping up Jennifer Lawrence's first big franchise, the question is, what does she want to do next? Turns out that Lawrence has her heart set on appearing behind the camera rather than in front of it. Jennifer Lawrence revealed to Entertainment Weekly that she's wanted to direct just as long as she's wanted to act, but that she doesn't talk about it "because I'd rather just do it."

Lawrence is already heading in that direction as she has on signed on to direct PROJECT DELIRIUM, which Lawrence says is "based on this article about mental warfare in the ’60s, like an acid experiment gone terribly wrong.” The article in question was originally publushed in 2012 by The New Yorker under the title "Operation Delirium" and "focused on military doctors running experiments on soldiers throughout the Cold War."

It’s funny, I’ve wanted to direct since I was 16 and always thought I should start making steps towards that, if I had tried to do it earlier, I wouldn’t have been ready. Now I actually feel ready.

Directing PROJECT DELIRIUM won't be the first time Jennifer Lawrence has stepped behind the scenes recently, she's also writing a comedy with Amy Schumer which will have the pair playing sisters. Lawrence and Schumer recently completed a new draft and seemed very excited about it, calling it "dirty", "real", and "like us." THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY - PART 2, the final installment in THE HUNGER GAMES franchise, hit theaters on November 20, 2015. Have fun, Jennifer

Don't trip and fall over the camera and don't spill food in the editing room, please.

She' s a great actress, seems very smart and is on top of Hollywood right now, with the power to greenlight anything. If she wants to use that power to give it a try at directing I say go for it. Hollywood definitely is in dire need of more female directors.

Who am I to judge? If she can do it, then fuck it. Let her do it. Who knows. The movie could turn out awesome. It's not like I have something to go by so for all we know she can have an amazing talent directing. I'm sure she's learned some important things from David. So have at it Jen. For the record... I'm all for originality in Hollywood. The less franchises we have the better off we'll be in the long run.

I don't think she's a good actress to begin with, now she's going to direct a movie too? Suddenly, everybody wants to be like Ben Affleck...

Based off of the synopsis and/or material, I really can't see her directing this type of genre. I agree with akskier, in that she should try something smaller in scoop. And depending on the success and critical acclaim, build up from there.

Conflicted on this one...love her as an actress and I have no problem with her (or any actor for that matter) wanting to try their hand at directing, but this sounds like it could be a pretty complex project that might be better suited in the hands of somebody with more technical experience. I guess I'd rather have her start with something a little less...ambitious.

funny thing about being young

you always FEEL ready when you WANT to do something. She's a good actress with the right material (Hunger Games isn't that material) but still too young to direct a Hollywood movie. More experience needed.
