Jessica Henwick claims that Marvel fans will “freak out” for The Defenders

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

If there's one person who's super excited about the upcoming Marvel and Netflix event, THE DEFENDERS, it's IRON FIST actress Jessica Henwick. Even with her professional dance card filling up by the minute, Henwick, who starred in IRON FIST as Colleen Wing, took some time out of her busy schedule to share some thoughts and details regarding Marvel's first major Netflix crossover event.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Henwick excitedly stated, “We pick up with Colleen not in New York — which is crazy, as all the shows have been predominantly in New York. We find her a month after we left her. It’s really interesting she hasn’t been able to deal with the emotional trauma she dealt with in IRON FIST. So it builds to a head and she explodes in THE DEFENDERS." After taking a quick breath to gather her thoughts, Henwick continued, "It’s good, it’s really good. I think people are going to love seeing characters interact with each other, they’re going to see Colleen and Misty [Simone Missick], they’re going to love seeing Luke Cage with the Iron Fist, Danny Rand. I think fans are going to freak out."

It's obvious from these quotes that Ms. Henwick is very excited about not just THE DEFENDERS, but about becoming an integral part of the extended MCU in general. I wish that I could say that I'm behind her 100%, though I must admit that my lackluster reaction to IRON FIST has me a bit shaken. That being said, I get chills just thinking about the concept of Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and even Danny Rand (Finn Jones) joining forces in the name of street justice on the same screen. Also, Sigourney Weaver is starring in this sucker, and that counts for a lot in my book!

Despite my trepidation, I'll be binge-watching THE DEFENDERS the moment it goes up on Netflix later this year. My hope is that Jessica, Luke, and Matt can in some way elevate Danny's character into being someone that I enjoy watching on screen. I mean it, I positively loathed the IRON FIST series to no end. That's just me, though. Truth be told, I have enough love for the MCU that I'm completely willing and able to give THE DEFENDERS a fair shake. Here's hoping that that it turns out to be one hell of a ride!
