Jim Carrey will now be hanging with Mr. Popper's Penguins

Aug. 20, 2010by: Niki Stephens

Jim Carrey, I will always love you. I just want to throw that out there before I start today's second article involving you.

Mr. Carrey will be going from possibly fronting a cover band to owning a shit ton of penguins.

Back in June, the actor was looking at starring in the lead role for the adaptation of MR. POPPER'S PENGUINS. Well, the studio has now locked him in the part of the high-powered businessman who inherits six penguins. Carrey beat out other actors like Jack Black, Ben Stiller, and Owen Wilson. This apparently due to the fact that they got him for a decent price. Should that make me happy or sad?

The script has taken a different turn from the original book written in 1938 by Richard & Florence Atwater, it's now going in a "upscale direction" according to Deadline, "As he gets acquainted with and increasingly attached to his winged roommates, Poppers life quickly unravels: his swanky New York apartment is turned into a snowy winter wonderland, the deal hes long been working on is derailed, and he almost lands in jail. "But thanks to his new charges, Popper comes to understand the importance of family human and otherwise."

Anyone down for this?

The world where Jim Carrey is a giant cocaine addict and is incredibly hard to insure for any movie that he has to take a considerable amount of money less than most. Good thing for him though that he negotiates a great back end contract. Supposedly he got 10% of Yes Man's profits.

Gulliver travels all over again

Mr.Poppers penguins was so good and was such a classic because of the original story line and time period it revolved around. When they upscale the story like this they usually end up dumbing down the material or losing the bulk of the importance of the story. Thats what happened with gullivers travels. Jack black is gulliver? Really come on now. And now it's happening again. Come on Hollywood!

C'mon Jim....

His career has been the definition of hit or miss. I'll see anything that he's involved with. But this sounds like shit. Have they learned nothing from any movie starring Brendan Frasier or Eddie Murphy?

I'll see any movie with Carrey. I hope the studio will get off their ass and release I Love You, Phillip Morris already, i've been waiting for that movie for a while. I don't know about the comments of Carrey making shit recently, i personally thought Yes Man was hilarious
