JJ Abrams officially beams up for Star Trek 2

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

While fans of the first STAR TREK (well, the recent first one) have been hungrily waiting to consume a sequel like a fresh bowl of gakh, filmmaker JJ Abrams has been performing evasive maneuvers in regards to a return trip on the Enterprise.

Now Vulture claims that Abrams has officially committed to take the bridge once again for STAR TREK 2, and that “the script will be done by month’s end and that Abrams will start shooting this winter.”

This supports what we heard after Comic Con in July — that Abrams had returned from post-SUPER 8 vacation and gathered with writers Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof to work on the script.

Alas, while Abrams was deliberating, Paramount realized the sequel would never make its intended June 29th, 2012 release date, and marched G.I. JOE: RETALIATION into the slot instead. TREK 2 is now expected to boldly go into theaters either Christmas 2012 or Summer 2013.
