J.K. Simmons says playing J. Jonah Jameson again is a possibility

Any fan of J.K. Simmons can tell you that the man has been tearing it up for years, whether it be on HBO's Oz, in films, or even on stage. Karma has finally come around, awarding him a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his fantastic work in WHIPLASH. Last week Simmons sat down with Howard Stern to talk about his latest. Inevitably the topic of Spider-Man came up and Stern rightfully praised his work as the cutthroat editor J. Jonah Jameson. He took it a step further and asked if he would ever return to the role. You can jump to the 55:30 mark of the interview to hear the man himself say it, but I've included the exact quote for you below.

J.K. Simmons on playing J. Jonah Jameson again:

I just heard we . . . that that's a possibility.

I love this quote because if you listen to it, it sounds like Simmons is going to dive into something before taking a moment and delivering a PC answer. Now, that may not be the case at all, but when asked straight up by Stern if he would do it, Simmons simply responded with, "Absolutely." Okay, so that's far from a confirmation but if Sony does take the Spider-Man franchise in a slightly different direction, like we're all hoping they do after the wreck that was THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, then I don't think bringing Simmons back is too far-fetched. The man seems like he had a ton of fun in that role and audiences loved him for it. That, my friends, puts a big smile on my face!

WHIPLASH is now playing in select theaters.

If Sony really wanted to make a killing they'd bring Sam and Tobey back. Just offer them whatever they want. I'd guarantee they'd make their investment back and THEN SOME.

Let's be honest, can anyone really picture anyone but JK Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson?

Yes. More Jameson and less commercials for insurance. I can see him being like Q or M for the bond series, he stays the same despite the main star changing.

Interesting....

I know this is a stretch, but what if the Sam Raimi Spiderman uuniverse was the one Marvel decided to go with if they potentially introduced him in Civil War? It would mean scrapping the ASM universe aaltogether and would explain Simmons' return. It would also bring back Tobey McGuire as Peter Parker. I think I could live with that. Hmmmm....

I'd of been okay with that if not for that horrible third installment. No, more than happy for Simmons to play a new version of JJ in a possible Marvel controlled Spider-Man movie but lets not use Raimi's world. I would rather they cast an actual teenager to play Parker - I think that's how a Disney backed Marvel would do it anyway - it would certainly recreate the always in awe Spider-Man feelings whenever he meets the powerhouse superheroes like Captain America and Iron Man...not to mention

I'd lose my shit. Tobey McGuire nailed Parker/Spider-Man in the second one...definitely the best Spider-Man movie made so far (and for all it's faults, 3 is still better than both Webb films, although Emma Stone was a great Gwen Stacy)

[link] agree. Would love for Maguire to come back and reprise the role again.

Easily the best portrayal of a comic book character in a movie, aside from the leading guys like RDJ and Hugh Jackman.

Would definitely be a step in the right direction in maybe fixing this wrecked new rebooted franchise or at least making the third entry tolerable.

Makes sense. Marvel seems to love J.K.'s J.J. He still plays the part for all their cartoon series, which are mae to (partly) reflect the MCU.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he showed up in a Marvel Spider-man movie. I mean, who could they possibly get that would be better?

J.K. Simmons was born to play J.Jonah Jameson. He fits the role perfectly.

Simmons was one of the best things in the Spider-Man movies...even the horrible third one - certainly the only actor whose character was consistently delivered well. That said, I prefer my JJ more "seriously" anti- Spider-Man...well, pretty much anti everything...then suddenly you see his softer side when he comes to the aid of a Peter Parker with a serious problem or as per the animated series from the 90's, his reason for not being pro masked vigilantes (not sure what his reasons where for
