J.Lo comic book movie

06.04.2002

The comic craze continues.  It began with X-MEN and was solidified with SPIDER-MAN and no everybody and their uncle is looking to get into the game.  But as quickly as the fad began, comes a movie that hopes to capitalize on the bankability by poking gentle fun at the genre.  Columbia Pictures is developing a film titled SHRINK!, created by "X-Force" and "Youngblood" artist Rob Liefeld, that follows a retired superwoman who now offers psychological counseling to her former colleagues.  Think X-MEN + ANALYZE THIS + SHREK.  Jennifer Lopez is set to star and produce through her Columbia-based Nuyorican production company.  Liefeld pitched the idea, using visuals he created, to Columbia execs who bit immediately thinking of the myriad of crossover possibilities (comics, TV, cartoons, books, posters, games, stickers, action figures, Dr. Pepper cans, etc.).  The studio is hoping to incorporate "recognizable" superheroes in the film but that could prove to be very difficult, very expensive or both.
