JoBlo.com visits X-Men's Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters (video)
Last month, I took a little trip to Oshawa, Ontario, Canada to visit Parkwood Estate, a sprawling mansion that began construction in 1916 and was home to the McLaughlin Family for more than five decades before becoming a National Historic Site of Canada. But, I wasn't there for a tourist expedition. You see, Parkwood Estate is also home a healthy number of film and TV productions, ranging from Hannibal to BILLY MADISON to CHICAGO to the main purpose for my visit - X-MEN. Yes, Parkwood Estate is one of many homes used to personify Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters in the film universe of the X-Men.
During my time there I was able to explore the grounds, snap some pictures, shoot some video, and even talk to some of the cast from the film, including Lana Condor, who plays Jubilee, and Carolina Bartczak who plays Magneto's wife, Magda, in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Mixing in the '80's setting of the latest film, the mansion was decked out to recreate the rooms of the main characters, including Cyclops, Quicksilver, Nightcrawler, Jubilee, Jean Grey, and Professor X. Like the estate itself, it was a trip back in time.
Check out the above video to get a more immersive look at the visit and see my interviews with Lana and Carolina below, as well as a host of pics from the mansion. You can order X-MEN: APOCALYPSE on blu-ray and DVD now!
Lana Condor (Jubilee) welcomes us to Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters
"Oh, I see what's going on here. So SORRY to interrupt!"
They always know that we're down for a drink or five.
'80's Supermutant chic. Now available at Old Navy.
Professor X's office. He has a chessboard instead of a laptop. His mind is the Internet.
"Do you have a moment to talk about mutantkind?"
Cyclops' rebellious biker jacket.
Quicksilver's jacket and belt.
Remember when spray painting your shoes was cool? Oh, that was never cool. Oh. Yeah. I never did that, either.
Not a single dick pic on that cast. I'm disappointed in teenage mutants.
Nightcrawler's room is creepy as hell. When you see an old robe and jumpstarter cables you know you're in trouble.
Jubilee's famous yellow jacket...
...and a close up of her buttons.
Course book materials. Cost: $567.83
Quicksilver breezing through class. Literally.
Just looking for mutants. In my special chair. With my VR goggles. Why are they all nude? Why am I tied down?
Cerebro. I would wear this in public.
Me and Jubilee. She shot me with fireworks right after this. And by fireworks, I mean restraining order.
