Marvel confirms Joe & Anthony Russo are set to direct Avengers: Infinity War

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

We've heard the rumblings and read the speculation, but now we can officially put all that to bed. Marvel has just announced that the directors of the two-part AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR film event will be none other than WINTER SOLDIER and CIVIL WAR directors Joe & Anthony Russo. These two creative minds wowed audiences and critics alike with CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, which arguably became one of the greatest comic book films of all time. With CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR well underway, and word that Joss Whedon would not be behind the camera for a third Avengers outing, it looks like these fan favorites have stepped up to the plate and signed on to direct BOTH installments of INFINITY WAR, of which fans have been clamoring for since the first infinity stone was introduced.

The third film in the Captain America franchise will, of course, bring the classic storyline from the Civil War comics to life, pitting Captain America (Chris Evans) against Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). The film will also introduce Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther. In regards to AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, this is not the most surprising bit of news, but it's certainly a welcome one. The Russo's showed some major prowess in directing an exciting action picture with some real drama at heart and stakes raised over that of its brethren, which is probably one of the hardest things to pull off in a comic book film. Especially after the madness that was the first AVENGERS film. Even though AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON is almost 3 weeks away, it's hard not to get excited for the Marvel films to come.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR – PART I will hit on May 4, 2018, while AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR – PART II will street May 2, 2019.

I have no qualms admitting that I lost my shit the first time I saw this in theaters.
