Joe Wright will team up again with Keira Knightley to direct Anna Karenina

Joe Wright must really enjoy working on period pieces with Keira Knightley.

The director will be helming Knightley in the upcoming adaptation of ANNA KARENINA. Tom Stoppard (SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE) will be the one to script from Leo Tolstoy’s classic novel.

Knightley in the role of Anna will star opposite Jude Law, as Anna’s husband Aleksei Karenin and Aaron Johnson as Count Vronsky. The rest of the cast includes Kelly Macdonald (BOARDWALK EMPIRE), Matthew Macfadyen (PRIDE & PREJUDICE), Emily Watson, Domhnall Gleeson (HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS and Alicia Vikander (THE SEVENTH SON).

For those of you who did not get a chance to read the Tolstoy novel, here’s a little summary: “The story unfolds in its original late-19th-century Russia high-society setting and powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart, from the passion between adulterers to the bond between a mother and her children. As Anna (Ms. Knightley) questions her happiness, change comes to her family, friends, and community.”
