Everyone wants a piece of John Boyega now.

Coming off the success of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, Boyega has already signed on to be a major piece of PACIFIC RIM 2. However, he's also spreading his wings as an actor beyond the big-budget blockbuster fare, too, as he'll be joining the cast of Kathryn Bigelow's latest – an untitled crime drama set set against the Detroit riots of 1967.

This would mark Bigelow's first picture since ZERO DARK THIRTY in 2012, and she'll be working from a script written by her longtime collaborator Mark Boal.

A summer shoot is on the calender, which is how Boyega can fit it into his increasingly crowded schedule. While the nature of his role remains under wraps for the time being, this is a good project for him. A film under Bigelow can help him really establish his credibility as an thespian who needs to be seen in whatever he does and not just a star. Her films have that quality to them.
