John Carpenter is producing and may score a new Halloween film

05.24.2016

How's this for unexpected but welcome news?! Not only is a new HALLOWEEN film on the way, but the man who originally brought The Shape to life, John Carpenter, is executive producing! Miramax, Trancas International Films and Blumhouse now have the rights to the franchise (Dimension having lost them months ago) and they sought out Carpenter a few weeks back to take part. Blumhouse is pretty adamant that there is no making a new HALLOWEEN film without John Carpenter's involvement, who will act as "godfather" and be involved creatively. There's even a chance he might score the film as well! Check out what he had to say on the matter below!

John Carpenter on making a new HALLOWEEN film:

We're going to go back to the earlier traditions that we started with. It's kind of gone astray a little bit. I thought that maybe the remake went off somewhere that I didn't want it to go. Michael Myers is not a character, he's a force of nature. He is not a person; he is part supernatural, part human. When you start straying away from that and start explaining, you're lost. So hopefully we can guide it back in that direction.

Carpenter also stated that he's going to "try to make the 10th sequel the scariest of them all,” and that it actually didn't take much convincing to get him on board. That's pretty surprising given what he's thought about the remakes and sequels to his films over the years. There hasn't been a director chosen just yet, but with Carptener's involvement, that's sure to put A LOT of fans at ease. The crew are aiming to get this one out by Halloween of 2017 so hopefully we'll have a great, new entry into the franchise come the end of next year!

The new HALLOWEEN flick is aiming to hit theaters by Halloween 2017.

It's still great after all these years!

"Michael Myers is not a character, he's a force of nature. He is not a person; he is part supernatural, part human."

Well, that should certainly shut up all the fucking dummies who think Myers is a regular human psychopath who can feel no pain (because they're incapable of understanding movies). He's a supernatural "thing", that's the whole point of the original movie's ending. Loomis is Van Helsing and nobody believes him. He's still out there, in the darkness - and he could be coming to

Of course, they fucked all that up in the sequels with the sister angle, the family angle, the Druid cult, the Druid control stones...

Come in Johnny

WIth Carpenter involved there is hope. We don't need excess gore and blood. That's not scary. We want to be frightened. To have suspense. And he's dead right on the don't explain thing. Myers needs no explanation. He's something else, he stalks and kills and that is all. The score Carpenter wrote all those years ago is still one of the best and most iconic for a horror.

Slasher movies need to be set in the 90s at the very latest...

After 2000, with the cell phone boom, there was no real scary slasher movie. They all had shitty reasons for not being able to call for help (No Bars, not charged).

They need to make a real 90s set sequel to Halloween. Retcon the entire series after part 2 like they are doing with Alien sequels. I am so glad they actually asked JC back to help move things along, it actually sounded less like he wanted nothing to do with the series and more like they never asked in the first place.

The only problem is, how do you keep that authentic fear alive? We don't want more Michael vs Family drama (unless its a sequel to H20 and we get Josh Hartnett back) Nor do we want Michael vs Modern Kids like that shitty Freddy remake and the F13th remake. They were not scary and only made the iconic villains seem weak and lame.

If you're going to do i, do it right. I'd say this is the first step to doing it right.

"Didn't take much convincing."

Since he's said he allowed shitty remakes to his classics because he liked the checks in his mailbox, I'm sure 'not much convincing' means more, bigger checks this time around.

Just because he wasn't opposed to free money in his mailbox doesn't mean that he isn't excited and ready to work hard with this project.

I don't subscribe to the idea that sequels, shitty or not, have any effect on the original. Sounds like he doesn't either. They just made his look even better.

Great news as I don't like Rob Zombie's Halloween movies. I'm okay if he wants a fresh start and re-tell the story for modern audiences, just as long as it's not going to be dumb slasher movie like The Fog remake.

As a HUGE fan of the franchise, this is the best thing that could happen for it. Now we'll finally get another good sequel since H2O.
