John Carter of Uglytown

11.28.2011

The new poster for JOHN CARTER is here and it's really, really red. It might be better than the last one but honestly, anything would be. It's still as bland as can be, nothing that you'd expect for a film that was supposedly a thrilling tale about an immortal being facing giant aliens.

Is it that hard to make an interesting poster for this film? Hell, even the original art from Edgar Rice Burroughs' novels are better than this, and the few pictures from the film they've released have been more exciting. Like the one focusing on their white gladiator apes

JOHN CARTER hits theaters March 9th. Will anyone care?

I'm just gonna say it.

I'm noticing a trend of a lot of "positives" of late for articles, reaching as high as the 20's. I'm not used to seeing this on joblo. Are the studios involved?

WTF?

I get that all of the articles here on JoBlo will have opinions, that's fine. It's one of the reasons I love it here, but damn guys, is there no one working here that thinks this looks as awesome as I (and a good number of my friends) do? The first trailer is one of my favorite trailers of the year.

With all that being said, this poster is awful. I get the pulp-y novel vibe they want, but it's garish to look at like.

I'm with you. I'm on board with what I saw in the trailer, but seems like this is one that will be beaten down before it ever comes out at this point.

Yeaah... I'm still going to see the film regardless of the poster. Also, it's definitely a bit uhh... bright, but I don't think it's a horrible poster.

I guess the clever homage in this poster design just went right over some people's heads.

i've said this before...and i will say it again...it's become far too easy for design departments to produce lackluster work for movie posters...here's proof again. Lazy.

It does look like an old sci fi pulp novel.
Though, I'm not sure that's what the film needs right now.
I still contend they need to fire their marketing department asap.

I have not read any of the novels on this although I understand the basic concept maybe I should check them out? However, when I saw the teaser trailer I wasn't blown away but still interested hopefully the next one will get me more interested into the movie.

Jesus Christ

this poster sucks, and this article is about this horrible poster, even if you think the hate to this point in unfair, there is NO way this is a nice poster. RED

I have to agree with everyone else. Why is this film getting bashed on this site? I loved the first trailer, and the film looks to be interesting both in visuals and story-wise. I am looking forward to the second trailer and will be seeing this in theatres.

Yes, the Disney logo brings the poster down a notch. Couldn't they just stick it in a corner?

I actually like the poster...it's bold and I'm sure it'll stand out against the other posters competing for movie-goers' attention at the theaters. And yeah, I don't mind a little commentary in my movie articles but it's getting a little out of hand lately, especially on subjective stuff like this. That said, if you read this article with Comic Book Guy's voice, it's ten times more entertaining.

DOES EVERY SINGLE ARTICLE ABOUT THIS MOVIE HAVE TO BE SO GOD DAMN NEGATIVE?

OK I get it, this entire website apparently hates John Carter.

I don't think Burroughs had the scientific insight of modern astronomers, so artistic license and suspension of disbelief may be in order here.

I for one like the poster because it looks like a book cover. The Disney logo does kind of kill it but I dont understand all the hate for this film. Between Tim Riggins (Taylor Kitsch) and Andrew Stanton I am sold on this flick and will be seeing it in theaters.

Ya know...it looks like a book cover

It looks like a book cover from that era of publication. I think that is the idea in this.

I agree that the Disney thing is a bit annoying.

Man, JB needs to quit bashing this film so bad. It's a freaking Edgar Rice Burroughs story made into a film in an era where no one seeing it probably has any idea who ERB is! That is balls! I for one will be in the theater if only
for the fact that it reminds me of a real life 'Gentlemen Broncos' tale! ESPECIALLY with that 1980's Sci-fi novel poster!

The Disney logo plastered all over everything released so far isn't doing it any favors.

I didn't even notice the Disney logo, its actually kind of small. But why wouldn't you put your logo if its yours. Artist sign there names to their artwork...
