John Connor's Chrysler

01.21.2009

Chrysler LLC have unveiled plans to underwrite TERMINATOR: SALVATION. They announced a deal to place its vehicles in "cameo roles" in the movie scheduled for release later this year. The financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.

Is it me or does this not really make sense? Like, I understand wanting to drive a beautiful silver Aston Martin because James Bond or I drive one. But unless there is this scene where John Connor and the resistance find an untouched Chrysler dealership and they wip the cover off a load of pristine vehicles like in THREE KINGS I don't see any reason for there being anything other than a piece of shit half-totalled Chrysler jeep left in the post-apocalyptic planet Earth wasteland that is stalked by machines destroying everyone and everything. I mean you've seen the trailers, right? It looks like Cher's basement out there; it's a real mess.
Extra Tidbit: Cast and crew were instructed to read Philip Dick's 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep'.

What you suggest

was already done in the movie "Doomsday". In post-apocalyptic Scotland (!), they unveil an untouched sports car. A Rolls Royce, I believe.

why oh why ???

Why on earth would they have to read DADOES? Bladerunner was very loosely based on it (the animoid animals about the only reference left). In the novel they take pills to give them different emotions, and a "real" animal was a status symbol (as very few have survived)...in a way i get the idea to put them in a "sci-fi" state of mind, but i also dont get what McG is going for by this specific novel. PKD's we can remember it for you wholesale was done as total recall, as well as other flicks made

i can only hope they dont try to market it as "Bladerunner meets whatever", as EVERY SINGLE FILM that ever references that flick is nothing remotely close to being as good, EVER !!

yes, BR is my fave film of all time, but i hate it being constantly referenced.

Just as long as Connor and his boys don't "listen to their iPods during battle", a'la Jessica Biel in fucking Blade Trinity.

Stumblezod

Cher's basement huh? Sounds like a blurb for the movie if I've ever heard one. Or maybe Chrysler's ad guys could work it into the marketing campaign. Very nice

The extra tidbit is cool, but I don't like the idea of blatant product placement in a movie of this type.

Interesting... For those who don't know "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" was the novel that Blade Runner was based off of.

Also interesting, the first Terminator film was partially inspired by "Second Variety", one of Phillip K. Dick's short stories.

Maybe John Connor and his team of freedom fighters live in an alternate future reality where Chrysler and other U.S. auto companies don't go belly-up.

True what RoneStar said, It could be in a flashback sequence. As long as it's not as force-fed as Will Smith's "my vintage 2003 converses are here!" -- like in I ROBOT.

My guess...

...would be that the car/cars appear in flashback sequences.

Like Marcus' personal ride before he gets the robo makeover.

Also: Is this what the U.S. bailout money is going towards?
