John Constantine heads to Starling City to guest-star in Arrow's 4th season

08.11.2015

While I never got around to watching the series myself, I know that many of you were fans of NBC's Constantine; particularly of Matt Ryan's portrayal of the title character. Sadly the show was canned after a mere thirteen episodes but never fear, the character of John Constantine will return in the fourth season of CW's Arrow.

Arrow star Stephen Amell had previously teased that the show's upcoming fourth season would deal with "magic and mysticism," thus Arrow producer Wendy Mercle was asked to comment on the possibilities of bringing John Constantine to the show. At the time they felt optimistic that they would to able to secure both the character and Matt Ryan and today the CW confirmed that Matt Ryan will indeed to making an appearance on Arrow. Matt Ryan will guest-star in the fifth episode, titled "Haunted," where he will provide “critical support to Oliver (Stephen Amell) when arrows aren’t enough."

Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim commented on the news:

We are thrilled to have Matt Ryan reprise the role of John Constantine on an upcoming episode of Arrow, Matt is an incredibly talented actor and his portrayal of this beloved character was always something we admired. The introduction of magic and mysticism on the show this season has provided a truly organic opportunity for us to bring John Constantine to Arrow and the CW’s DC universe. It will be a well-deserved tip of the hat to all the Constantine fans who were so incredibly supportive of that series.

The fourth season of Arrow will premiere on October 7, 2015.

nice, the NBC series wasn't terrible. But if you don't enjoy the genre it was probably hard to watch. I kinda hope CW is testing the waters to see if they want to pick up the torch on this series. here's to hoping it gets a good response and either the add him as a regular to the Heroes of Tomorrow (or whatever that series will be called) or he'll get his own show.

Best news I've read in awhile. I actually loved the show. It took a few episodes to find its footing but once it did it was amazing. Matty was a perfect Constantine. Everything about him felt ripped off the page. I hope his one appearances turns into more after the winter break. And then from there maybe a series reboot or an addition to Legends.

Not too familiar with the character, I enjoy Arrow though. Jeri Ryan is going to be on the show this season and that's alright by me.

It would be pretty decent if they manage to spin this off into another series. In all honesty, I don't think Legends is going to last all that long. Or at least the show will need to be re-tooled from what it is currently (Captain Cold and Heat Wave are heroes all of a sudden?) It would be cool if they could re-tool Legends of Tomorrow into "Legends" and have it be a riff on Justice League Dark with a team of Constantine, ATOM, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Firestorm, and White Canary.

I'm guessing they would introduce some supernatural elements into the film (by using Constantine) to beef up the storyline for Arrow's fourth season.

What makes this especially good news is the fact that Arrow-Flash-Legends can only use so many characters seeing as how DC is going to be using most of the Justice League characters in the movies. What they can do is drop Rip Hunter, Captain Cold and Heatwave from Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 and bring in Constantine, Hawkman and Vixen to go with White Canary, Atom, Firestorm and Hawkgirl, Unite the seven. :)

Constantine was a very average show, with a fantastic lead actor, so this makes me very happy.

And yes, Arrow needs to pick it up a bit. S3 was... lacking.

I just hope that Arrow actually gives Constantine something to do than his own show did.
