John Lasseter introduces a top secret Cars 2 clip

Apr. 5, 2011by: Niki Stephens

Okay, so the clips from CARS 2 isn't so top secret. Director John Lasseter might say it is but you can just head over to Apple trailers to get it. Actually by now most film sites have already featured the clip. But at one point, for a short period of time, it was top secret.

Outside of WonderCon was a car emblazoned with the Twitter handle, Chrome Leaks. When you check out the Twitter page, there's a link that sends you to a fake used car ad. The number listed in the ad (510-423-0616) offers up a URL that takes you to the "top secret" clip.

If you don't want to go through any of that, we have the clip for you below. It's a chase scene with Finn McMissile (Michael Caine). When a car has no way of escape, what does it do? Watch the clip to find out.

Synopsis:

"Star racecar Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and the incomparable tow truck Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) take their friendship to exciting new places in "Cars 2" when they head overseas to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix to determine the world's fastest car. But the road to the championship is filled with plenty of potholes, detours and hilarious surprises when Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage. Torn between assisting Lightning McQueen in the high-profile race and towing the line in a top-secret spy mission, Mater's action-packed journey leads him on an explosive chase through the streets of Japan and Europe, trailed by his friends and watched by the whole world. Adding to the fast-paced fun is a colorful new all-car cast that includes secret agents, menacing villains and international racing competitors."

Nope :(

Cars was Pixar's worst movie yet...and I maintain that the reason is this:

They chose to anthropomorphize something that did not already have any lifelike qualities. Cars don't have eyes or mouths. Bugs do. Toys can. Monsters do. Fish do. But not cars.

This made for an inherently weak story. Where were the people? What role do they play in the world of cars that drive themselves and think for themselves? No...it was stupid to begin with, and the only thing stupider is making a

Totally agree. All, but Cars took place in worlds within our 'reality.' Stretching a bit, but even a film revolving around a world of plants would be a bit more grounded than Cars.

Cars was Pixar's weakest effort in many ways, but at least it had some adult themes "we" could relate to. Everything I have seen for Cars 2 seems 100% driven towards young kids with little to no depth. I don't like to judge before I see a movie, but this looks like the first Pixar film that will not be a part of my home collection. I hope I am wrong

I wouldn't say I'm excited, but I will definitly check it out. I'm more excited for the score, b/c they have Michael Giacchino doing the music instead of Randy Newman who did the first Cars. Given the material, I expect the score to sound like a mix of Incredibles, Speed Racer, and Mission Impossible 3, which would be awesome to me.

Explain to me the hate toward this film that isn't even out yet? Yes I understand most people weren't blown away by the original Cars, but I think a big part of that was it was made during the writers strike. Watch the bts of any Pixar film and you'll see that the movie changes a lot throughout the course of production, most times for the better. With the original Cars they didn't have that benefit. They had to go with everything they had originally and nothing more. Plus it's Pixar, even if

Cars came out in June 2006, and the strike started in fall 2007.

My bad. You're right. In that case I can kind of understand, but it's still judging this movie based off the dislike for the first one.

Sorry

I enjoyed cars, but this seems really unnecessary. And it also doesn't look very good.
