John Lithgow, Ellen Burstyn and two young stars join Christopher Nolan's Interstellar

Interstellar

I really wished I had more information on Christopher Nolan's INTERSTELLAR for you guys besides casting news, but like many, many times before the only update we have for the highly anticipated film is more actors and actresses who have signed onto the sci-fi project.

The big addition to INTERSTELLAR (in my opinion) is the fantastic John Lithgow. The Wrap has learned that the actor has agreed to appear in the film, and joining him will be Ellen Burstyn (REQUIEM FOR A DREAM, Big Love), Mackenzie Foy (THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN PART 1 & 2, THE CONJURING) and Timothe Chalamet (Homeland). At this time we have no news (of course) on what their parts will be in the upcoming movie.

Besides the new additions, INTERSTELLAR also stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Casey Affleck, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine and Bill Irwin. Once again though, it'd be nice to know a little bit more about the film besides the same synopsis we've been seeing for months. Hey look: there it is now!

INTERSTELLAR involves time travel and alternate dimensions in a story that sees a group of explorers travel through a wormhole. The script is based on scientific theories developed by a Kip Thorne, a theoretical physicist, a gravitational physicist and astrophysicist at Caltech.

I used the words "highly anticipated" earlier to describe INTERSTELLAR, but with how much hype is surrounding the film it seems like that phrase doesn't do it any justice. I'm fascinated to see what Christopher Nolan has up his sleeve with INTERSTELLAR, however it could be awhile before we nail down some solid details about the film.

INTERSTELLAR is scheduled to be released on November 7th, 2014.

Extra Tidbit: Which "secretive" film set to be released in 2014 are you intrigued by the most: INTERSTELLAR or Wally Pfister's TRANSCENDENCE?

Agree with SchaefDizzle about John Lithgow needing to be nominated for RoTPotA. It's funny, when Breaking Dawn Part 2 came out, I was commenting that child actors should take roles like (SPOILER) young Talia al Ghul instead of Renesmee. So it's cool that she is actually working with Chris Nolan now.

Love John Lithgow, exciting that he's joining this cast. Maybe he misses being in a sci-fi movie ever since the 2010.

This could be the psychological space masterpiece that Sunshine could've been

If not for the messy third act, Sunshine is such an amazing sci-fi movie, it could've been a masterpiece. Nolan can pull this off.

I kept saying this ever since I watched Rise of The Planet of The Apes. We need more John Lithgow in movies.

As much as I loved the Dark Knight Trilogy, I always found Nolan's non-Batman films much more exciting and better.

Memento, Prestige, and Inception I think shows his true craftsmanship and storytelling than the Dark Knight films. Again no disrespect. What he did with Batman was brilliant.

I have to agree that Nolan's imagination far exceeds his passion for the Batman trilogy.

Lithgow is in Jeff Daniels territory as being an extremely versatile and underrated actor. Very cool to see him attached to this.

Tidbit

I'm going more with Interstellar because we have a feeling of what is to be expected from Nolan at this point whereas Phister's work as a director has yet to be seen.

Tidbit.....

Interstellar beats out Transcendence for me. Not that I expect Transcendence to be bad or anything, I hope it's awesome. Cinematographers just don't slip into the director's chair very easily and as much as I love Wally's Phister's work, I'll wait for a trailer.

Always glad to see Lithgow in more films. Really liked his smart part in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Nolan sure knows how to cast a movie.

Huge respect for Nolan's casting choices

I always appreciate the fact that Christopher Nolan casts old school talent who's star power has faded, but not the skill and talent.
Rutger Hauer (Batman Begins)
Eric Roberts (TDK)
Tom Berenger (Inception)
Matthew Modine (TDK:R)
And now, John Lithgow, who is usually seen in thankless roles in This is 40 and Confessions of a Shopaholic, but can milk an opportunity like Dexter when given one.
