John Turturro returning as the Jesus in Big Lebowski spin-off Going Places

john turturro, the jesus, jesus quintana, the big lebowski

We haven't seen the last of the Jesus, which makes sense since nobody f*cks with him.

John Turturro's latest film GOING PLACES, which he's currently in production on, apparently will see the actor reprising his role from THE BIG LEBOWSKI in a spin-off of sorts.

According to Birth.Movies.Death, Turturro is directing this remake of the 1974 French comedy LES VALSEUSES from a script he also penned. The original features two thieves competing against one another to give a woman her first orgasm as she gets intertwined with their shenanigans. One of those thieves will be Turturro's Jesus Quintana. The other will be played by Bobby CannavaleAudrey Tautou will serve as the female lead at the center of their contest, and Susan Sarandon rounds out the cast as a fellow criminal fresh out of the joint.

Joel and Ethan Coen are not creatively involved with GOING PLACES, but given Turturro's desire to revisit the character in the past and his history with the Coen brothers, it's hard to believe they wouldn't have given him their blessing to use the character as such. For fans of THE BIG LEBOWSKI, this really ties the room together, man.

Making a movie is missing the point of The Jesus

People always laugh at The Jesus’ antics in The Big Lebowski. What I find most interesting about his character, though, is that he plays up this huge persona while in the bowling league, but he’s actually a pathetic human being. When it’s revealed that he’s a pedophile, there’s a clip of him dressed normal – looking a little apprehensive and unsure of himself – standing at a neighbor’s front door, because he’s legally obligated to tell everyone that he’s an offender… THAT is the crux of what

When it’s revealed that he’s a pedophile, there’s a clip of him dressed normal – looking a little apprehensive and unsure of himself – standing at a neighbor’s front door, because he’s legally obligated to tell everyone that he’s an offender… THAT is the crux of what made his purple suit and tough talk so unique. Perhaps not everyone in the bowling league knows who he is in “reality”. He has to personally escape from the horror of his own life, by pretending in a bowling alley. He wants to be regarded as something other than “a sex offender”. Moreover, it seems like those that DO know him play along with this false persona.
All that matters is that he’s good at bowling. He can say and do what he wants, and the rest will play along with him… because “Fuck it, let’s go bowling.”
Making a movie about this sad, disgusting person goes completely against the point of the Coen brothers creating “The Jesus” in the first place. We know all we need to about him, we get a few laughs, and there’s the bonus of a slightly deeper dimension to his character; a quick peek behind the curtain, revealed at just the right time. That small reveal is what makes him that much more amusing when watching the movie again.
A small man, walking and talking big, in a small bowling league. Genius.

I kind of agree with you. I mean, not a movie I would've dreamed of making. But it's been 18 years, and so it's not just a movie about The Jesus. It's a movie about The Jesus 20 years later. That COULD be interesting.

He's a child molester, but I'm sure they can they can figure out a clever way of showing he was wrongly convicted. We know almost nothing about the Jesus.

This will be a disaster

Like others are saying... have we all forgotten he's a child molester? The point of his antics in the movie are because he's trying to hide from those around him what he really is; sick, and depressing. The look on his face when the door opens while he has to tell his neighborhood what he's done says it all.

Was there any indication whatsoever in TBL that he was falsely accused? The answer is NO. So I ask you, what makes you believe he was falsely accused?

Well, that settles it then. He's guilty because you say he is.

I don't see any possible success in getting "Les Valseuses" readapted in any ways, this is "mission impossible" though this is a dream come true to be able to see John Turturro's Jesus on screen again, such a great character, I've been waiting for this for so long :)
