John Williams will score the new Star Wars...right?

To say John William's film scores are iconic is still an understatement. I mean, take a look. Obviously he's received a lot of rightfully earned credit for his work throughout the years but when they're all lined up next to each other it just seems even more impressive.

One of John William's most recognized and beloved works is of course STAR WARS. While most of the news has been about what stories may be told and what actors/characters may re-appear in the new films, little has been said about his involvement. Coming Soon has a report from someone that was in the audience of a concert last week by the Young Musicians Debut Orchestra, which was being conducted by John Williams. Before launching into the epic theme song for the film, he reminisced a little on STAR WARS and his hopes of returning for the future films:

“We’re about to play Star Wars [audience interrupts with cheers] and each time we play it, I’m reminded of the first time we played it decades ago. Neither I, nor George, nor anyone else involved thought this would go far or in a few years there would be a sequel and I’d have to revisit the themes…and years later another trilogy. Now we’re hearing of a new set of movies coming in 2015, 2016…so I need to make sure I’m still ready to go in a few years for what I hope would be continued work with George…[more cheers].”

I think most of us may have assumed that John Williams would return but Coming Soon also notes that J.J. Abrams almost always works with composer Michael Giacchino (STAR TREK, SUPER 8, 50/50), so it's not like John Williams is a lock at this point. If Giacchino does end up working on the new STAR WARS instead of John Williams, those are some mammoth shoes he's going to have to fill. How up in arms are you going to be if Williams doesn't compose the score? Could we be getting a new theme song?

Extra Tidbit: I know it'll be hard but give me your favorite John Williams theme. I was really torn between severally but I have to go with JURASSIC PARK.

I think Williams still has it, he still produced great music for the prequels (probably the only thing about the prequels done right), although Lucas edited the hell of what Williams recorded. All in all, a Williams/Giacchino collaboration would be interesting....

Gotta bring back Williams...

JJ really needs to separate his STAR TREK from his STAR WARS... and one way to do that would be the music... go get John Williams.

Williams or Nothing

JJ got away with a new composer on Star Trek because it never had a single composer and they had already changed the themes so many times. This is freaking Star Wars we are talking about. Its not like Williams is in a home with Alzheimers he can still compose and obviously he wants to. This is not the time to be bringing in a new theme song. There will be tons of side line Star Wars spin off movies, experiment with those, this is the core series.

If its not broke don't fix it.

It isn't Star Wars without the Williams fanfare. Bring it.

Jurassic Park is mine, too.

I'm not the hugest fan of Williams' more recent output, but if the man is able and willing, he's a must for Star Wars. That's just how I feel about it. I love Giacchino's scores, and I'm sure he could do well with Star Wars, but I still would rather Williams stick with the franchise.

Not sure I'm the kind of guy...

to make that call. Music is art, I would rely strongly on John's opinion on whether or not he has anything left in the tank for Star Wars. Ask him if these new ideas inspire him. If they do, great, have at it John. But if he's already said, musically, all he wants to or can with this property, then I think it's only right to get someone who will bring the right type of enthusiasm or reverence to this new series.

I'll be totally honest...

As much as I love Williams, I think it might be time to inject some young energy and imagination into the new series. As far as I'm concerned, Giacchino is the new Williams.

However if he feels ready to come back and kick-ass, I'm all for it.

Williams is Lord

Raiders is my favorite of all-time. But the dark horse is 1941.
And a little birdy told me that JW is set to score "Tommorowland". Star Wars may change all that.

I was wondering if he would even want to do it and am surprised he does. If he wasn't to do it I felt that Joel McNeely, who composed a phenomenal score to "Shadows of the Empire" would be a great choice. If Williams wants to do it, and is unseated by Giacchino, I will personally poop in a bag and delivery it to JJ Abrams front lawn.

John Williams is a music god

I love John Williams, grew up with his music and it has made an everlasting impact on the world. I hate to say it but when the day comes that John Williams passes, I will cry, which is something I don't normally do when celebrities pass away. Only other times I did was, John Barry and Heath Ledger. If Williams doesn't return to Star Wars, I think Michael Giacchino would be an excellent choice to carry on the Williams tune.
John Williams you are simply the best, and that was without even

Williams is the absolute tops. But, even he seemed to phone it in on the sequels. Giacchino is no slouch, either. I'm sure if he is given the job, he'll use the established themes in new ways.

And the soundtrack to 1941 is usually what I whistle on long car trips...

Love the score to "1941", such an underrated score.

I certainly hope he'll be back to compose for the new films. Giacchino is not a bad composer by any stretch of the imagination but well, John Williams is John Williams. My favourite John Williams theme? Probably the Raiders march. I like pretty much all the stuff he's done.

Tidbit

JURASSIC PARK, it invokes more emotions and has a better range. But Star wars still has an epic soundtrack.

I'm going to hold everything with a grain of salt for now until I hear an official statement that would confirm everything including the previous report of Harrison Ford returning as Han Solo.
