Johnny Depp is My American Lover

No, this isn't a post about some strange dream I had that stirred up feelings I didn't know existed about Johnny Depp. Rather, it's about a new project from the actor, one where he’s collaborating with his girlfriend of 12 years (and mother of this two kids), Vanessa Paradis. According to Depp:

“It’s in preparation. It's called My American Lover. Vanessa plays the French feminist Simone de Beauvoir and I play her lover Nelson Algren who is real macho.”

Who are these people, for those of us who missed French Feminists 101 in college?

“Simone de Beauvoir was a 20th century French writer and philosopher famous for her treatise The Second Sex, an analysis of women's oppression and contemporary feminism and her open relationship with existentialist philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre. She traveled through Latin America with writer Algren in 1949.”

Sure, whatever, if Depp’s involved, it’s probably going to be pretty worthwhile. And yes, his wife is an actress (she’s appeared in a number of French films) so this isn’t completely some little relationship rejuvenation project. The film is being directed by Depp’s WHAT’S EATING GILBERT GRAPE pal Lasse Hallstrom, and shooting will probably start in the far-off future once THE TOURIST and PIRATES 4 wrap for Depp.

Extra Tidbit: Says Depp of Jolie in THE TOURIST: "She’s a nice woman. What she does she takes very seriously. I was really impressed by her and I’m thrilled to be working with her." Guess no Brad/Jen-type drama here.
