Johnny Depp will produce and possibly star in a Dr. Seuss biopic

Whatever your opinion may be of the film adaptations of HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS, THE CAT IN THE HAT, and HORTON HEARS A WHO, the truth is that the stories created by Dr. Seuss - a.k.a. Theodor Seuss Geisel - still bring simple, imaginative joy to children and families today. THE LORAX will be the next Seuss adaptation you'll either hate or love, but will the powers of Johnny Depp soon bring us a film of the man pictured above?

According to THR's Risky Business blog, probably! Depp is on board the Universal and Illumination Entertainment live-action biopic about the life of the classic children's author and illustrator in a producer capacity, and will possibly star as Seuss himself. A fitting choice I guess, despite the fact that Young Seuss literally looks like the offspring of John Landis and David Strathairn.

The film comes written by "In Treatment"'s Keith Bunin. THR says that, "while producers say that the film is unlikely to take the fantastical CGI-coated style of Alice in Wonderland, which grossed more than a billion dollars worldwide with Depp in the lead, they are not ruling out animated bells and whistles."
Extra Tidbit: Tell me he doesn't look like John Landis sans beard!

extra tidbit: yea he looks like Landis, and I also think robert de niro as well

This is pretty cool news. If it's in the same vain as Finding Neverland with maybe some animation tastefully thrown in, then it could be pretty cool!

Finding Whoville

Sounds similiar to Depp's Finding Neverland. That is not a bad thing.

I'm thinking more of David Strathairn (Good Luck and Goodnight) then DeNiro or Depp.

I agree

Everybody beat me to the Deniro comment. At first glance I thought it was him. Cover up his face below the nose.

I'd rather have Robert Downey Jr. over Johnny Depp.

I REALLY hope the Dr. Seuss movie touches on Theodore Geisel's career as a political satirist and humorist and really tries to touch on the deeper meanings behind his stories. Sure he was a children's author, but he was so much more than that. "The Butter Battle Book" is so much more intelligent and adult than it lets on.

Actually...

...at first glance, it looked more like DeNiro in the above photo. Turn away from the computer, and then turn and look at the picture really fast (just a quick glance). Totally looks like DeNiro.
