Joker to be teased in every episode of Fox's Gotham? Plus new TV spot

10 months agoby:

While it's been confirmed Joker will appear in Fox's Gotham, we don't know how the character will be used or introduced in the upcoming television series. After Jon Beavers was cast as a stand-up comedian in the pilot, many fans immediately began to speculate he might be the future Joker.

However, Bleeding Cool has heard there will likely be a Joker tease in each episode of the first season, with different actors playing characters who could potential be the Clown Prince of Crime.

Basically, every episode in the first season will introduce a character that might be a future Joker, each emphasizing aspects of the character’s iconography, a card sharp, a flower seller, a clown, or just a guy with a very big grin. All relatively unknown actors. All potentially a Joker. But only one of them being the actual Clown Prince Of Crime.

If true, I think it's an interesting way to use the character, and I think it could work for the show. Is this a good idea, or do you think weekly Joker teases will be too much?

In addition to this Joker rumor, a new TV spot has been released for Gotham as well. While Ben McKenzie's Jim Gordon walks on to a crime scene in the latest spot, you get a glimpse at most of the major players, and it uses the "The Good. The Evil. The Beginning." tagline that also appeared on last month's character posters for Fox's new series. The pilot will debut at this year's San Diego Comic Con, so there should be more details on Gotham coming in the near future.

"Someone needs to take a stand against it all — and that is where we come in."

Gotham is scheduled to premiere on Fox on September 22, 2014.

I dont think he means that Joker will be teased in a sence that hes going to be referenced every episode. I think what he means is that theres going to be a minor character showing up in each epsode and if the show passes the first couple seasons then we will see one of these characters emerge and turn into the Joker. Like your gonna forget about these minor characters and then all sudden they reappear and one turns into the joker while your watching and saying oh yeah I remember that guy. Does

Does anyone know if this show is in relation to the upcoming Batman vs Superman movie? I thought DC was planning on connecting their shows and movies but I cant tell if this is just a spin off or prequel to the Bruce Wayne we will see in the upcoming movie.

I think its a good idea if done correctly, i like that they dont introduce the joker at all the first season, gives you something to look forward to. If i were them i would simply tease him with his character traits in other actual characters. Then using someone completely differant for whom they decide to actually portray the joker. But to be honest i could do without the joker entirely perhaps until the final and concluding season of this series.

Personally, I think any Joker reveal in this show is a bad idea. Part of the appeal of Joker is that 1) He's Batman's arch-nemesis, not Jim Gordon's, 2) The Joker's history is never really revealed, he just shows up as a foil to Batman and sticks around to torment him after. Having his origin as part of this show detracts from the character of Batman, IMO.

Teasing the Joker in every episode is an odd decision to me. I'd prefer the long crawl of being teased with him once a season maybe. I'm also very concerned about the premise of this show as a whole, the story would have to be about how Gordon is a good cop who fails at saving the city. Maybe there's a way to make this work but I can't see it. Gordon, though competent, is ill equipped to face Batman's rogues gallery.

I can see that plot device getting old really fast

but, it's all in the execution. If they keep it interesting, then it'll be fun. Still cautiously optimistic about this show.

No one has seen this so SHUT UP!

Don't ruin what could be something good! People bitching on the internet is what doomed Beware of the Bat to an early cancellation. And guess what most people enjoyed it. Yeah penguin is a skinny tall dude and poision ivy's name isn't Pamela Iesley. But Arrow wasn't perfect it's first season.

yeah but the premise doesn't make sense.

Gordon will defeat all of Batmans villains during the course of the show? Then batman grows up and fights old men as villains??
why will Gotham need Batman?
He is the best at what he does, and only Batman can stop the Riddler, Joker etc. but by the time Batman shows up, Gordon would have already been fighting these guys for 20 years - so wouldn't Gordon be the expert then?

Also Penguin HAS to be short and fat - you cannot say he will become short

Arrow changed things around here and there for sure, but he is still green and shoots arrows. I mean they are changing around a main villain to something that no one will recognize.

this show may be good, but when you start out with a flawed premise, then change the character names and traits, you have to expect some negative feedback!

I agree wth j-man, I think this show looks like total crap and part of that is the nonsensical premise. However, I disagree about Arrow, maybe you've read the comics or maybe you haven't but to say that show has "changed things around here and there" is a MASSIVE understatement. On a scale of 1-10 it's probably like a 2 in terms of how faithful it is to the comics.

luke - yeah I read the comics and yeah the changed stuff around. may a "here and there" was too forgiving.
they changed a lot granted.

at first I didn't want to watch arrow based on the fact that they called it starling city and not just star city.
that pissed me off to start with. then calling her laurel instead of Dinah (I know in the show Dinah is her name, but its annoying to keep calling her laurel) and her sister and all that - speedy, etc - all changed up, so my "here and there" is

like penguin was my big complaint - I saw some pics and the caption was "penguin" and I couldn't tell who was penguin from the other characters - that's a heavy mistake.

I will give this a chance, but I don't think it will be too good.

anyway - I do like arrow, but I haven't seen any of the second season yet. as of today I still like the flash tv series and superboy for superhero shows (not counting animation)

J-man they have never EVER said Gordon will fight the villains in their full form this show is just going to show us the Genesis of the villains I don't think we have to worry about Gordon fighting them and the comment about them being all old when Batman gets to them REALLY?!! Poison Ivy in the trailer was a little kid, the actor who plays Penguin is a teen/early 20s or he's meant to look that way I think it's ludicrous to say Gordon will take care of them, their mentors maybe but most of the

I'm still very optimistic for this show when I picture a young Gordon in my head one of the people I picture is Ben Mckenzie you gotta have faith I have my gripes about what I've seen so far but I'll give it a shot.

Jonny K is correct, no one Knows the following:

1) If Gordon defeats all of Batman's enemy's every episode, or season - Could be a thing called an arch involved.
2) When Gordon even discovers who's who - just cause we know who they are doesn't mean he does
3) If Gordon will be cleaning up the city - who is to say that gordon even succeeds after all Gotham is corrupt
4) Foiling a crime is not the same as locking up the villain - Just because he saves a child, or a bank doesn't mean he

Also Batman has defeated his enemies multiple times, and had to continue doing it and no one had an issue with that. Why people can't let the creative minds take over and then hate if its bad. I don't get hating something that we have no idea what it will be like.

I have not said I hate the show - as I said I will watch it and give it a chance, but the premise still seems flawed and my fave villain the penguin sucks.

we are simply discussing our thoughts on the show based on the little we have.

RK - yeah they never did say that, ill give you that one. however why have all these characters then if Gordon wont interact with them or something? I don't know, this sounds and looks like smallville and I don't want to wait 10 years to see batman when I

we shall see how it goes!
my fingers are always crossed for superhero stuff and I am usually pretty forgiving (I even bought the live action captain America on bluray!)

Joker.....so he is going to be a kid?

So he is going to be a wise cracking kid? Or is he going to be an adult who never ages and is a comedian? This is weird. I will have to pass on this. Or is this a Smallville version of Batman? Meh

well what age exactly is the joker at any given point when you read or watched the movies? Probably since they never say yo don't know, so it wont matter. But to make it easy for you lets say he is 24 yrs old in this, then 20 years go by and he will be...wait for it....44, was that hard?

This is going to suck.

There is no Joker without Batman. This show is just sounding worse with every article written about it.

Joker and Batman are Yin and Yang. How can you have one without the other? First they fuck with Riddlers backstory now they are messing with Jokers. Also, Penguin is some skinny kid with a long nose?? Really?

This show blows and everyone already knows it.

or at least they should know it.

I guess when batman grows up he will be fighting 50 year old villains that Gordon already fought and defeated (unless they plan on making Gordon lose ever battle?)

Talk about a failed concept.

Too bad Penguin has been ruined. Everyone is complaining about the new FF movie (myself included) for not be accurate etc, yet Penguin not being short and fat is getting a major pass?

I mean that is a BIG part of the character. They don't have to have the freak Penguin from Tim's movie (although I love that movie and Danny DeVito was the best), they can go the comic route - gangster type of penguin - but he as to be short and fat - I don't get why nobody seems to be commenting on

Maybe the producers don't want to show a fat person in a role that isn't goofy and stupid?
