The upcoming thriller THE TOURIST was set to star a beautiful, Oscar-winning actress but she unfortunately had to drop out and has now been replaced by…a beautiful, Oscar-winning actress. Charlize Theron, long attached to star in THE TOURIST, has left the production and has been replaced by Angelina Jolie. Theron takes with her director Bharat Nalluri (MISS PETTIGREW LIVES FOR A DAY) with whom she developed the project. At one time, TOURIST was on the shortlist of projects Tom Cruise was looking to star in post-VALKYRIE. He opted instead to star alongside another pretty blonde (Cameron Diaz) in another thriller (WICHITA).
It’s unclear what drove Theron from the project but the current iteration would have Jolie starring alongside Sam Worthington. The film follows an American tourist who, on behalf of Interpol, goes undercover to entrap a former lover who’s a suspected global criminal. The search for a Jolie-approved director is now underway and producers are hoping for an early-2010 start.
