Jon Schnepp says George Miller is directing Man of Steel 2

08.21.2015

A few months ago, leaked production art of George Miller's defunct Justice League movie showed us what could have been. If you're feeling sore about that, we may have some very exciting news! Jon Schnepp, Venture Bros. and Metalocalypse director, as well as director of the recent documentary THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN LIVES: WHAT HAPPENED?, recently guest-starred on Popcorn Talk where he continued to discusses all things DC. After talking about the latest BATMAN V SUPERMAN trailer, Schnepp had no qualms stating that MAD MAX: FURY ROAD'S George Miller would be directing MAN OF STEEL 2. You can listen to his own words here around the 55:30 mark, but the man sounds more sure of himself than a Jesse Eisenberg Lex Luthor.

Given that Tom Hardy had previously signed on to more Mad Max films, rumors have been floating around about Miller returning to his post-apocalyptic world for a while. As much as we'd love some more Mad Max action, nothing has been set in stone for the director yet. Given the praise for FURY ROAD and the action within, it would make all too much sense for Warner Bros. to bring him on to one of their biggest properties. In light of this news, perhaps we'll hear something official sooner rather than later!

While no date has been set for MAN OF STEEL 2, we can see the alien hero next in BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE which hits March 25, 2016.

Would you rather see George Miller tackle another MAD MAX movie or MAN OF STEEL 2?

wait, what?

George Miller is doing MoS 2. Affleck is doing a standalone Batman. where did these movie come from? what the hell was all that talk about having stuff planned out through 2020? was that whole presentation just BS hype to divert attention from Marvel?

unless George Miller is purposely fucking with them.

WB Exec: George we would love for you to do one of our upcoming DC movies. How about revisiting Justice Leage?

George Miller: No, Superman.

WB Exec: We currently don't have that

Oh, what a day... what a lovely day!

Shit yeah! Although I would really like to see what he would do with the Flash.

Kevin Smith actually talked about this and I have to he pretty much hit the nail on the head when he said let him do Wonder Woman if he's so good at making female centric films, hell let him do Aquaman. That's really my only gripe is i'd rather see him tackle one of te other charecters frankly I'm not all that excited for annother Superman film unless the concept ends up being really cool). Plus it would be a shame If it interfears with his next Mad Max film.

But overall this is great

does George Miller have a reputation for making female-centric movies? or was it just Fury Road. because maybe for him it's a "been there and done that". making him do the same thing again might be risky (if he feels he got his point across with Furiosa already).

Still I thought it made a ton of sense. As tricky as dealing with gender in modern day society is, he was a able to make a movie that pretty much everyone loved and most everyone embraced the female hero. Frankly there's no one outside of Ketherine Bigalow I would want to see do it (again I'm shore she's plenty busy but honestly would there have been a better female filmaker).

Just keep Zack Snyder FAR AWAY

Zack Snyder has ONE look for every movie and it's just bland. It brings down the entire force of the film. I am so sick of dark Superman movies. Hopefully Miller brings some of that amazing light and color over from the Mad Max world. Miller has 10x the amount of cinematography and directional skills that Zack has.

Perhaps we'll finally get a good post-Nolan DC movie. Damn you DC for pulling me back in!

Hell Yeah! I think he'll be dope for this. While I'm a fan of Snyder, his comic book movies are a bit too earnest at times...I'm willing to bet George will lighten things up for MOS2

As long as it in no way interferes with future Mad Max films then have at it.

amazing

if this is true, this will be incredible. after MMFR, I will see anything this man directs! but yes, we need a more clever name than Man of Steel 2

Great

this would skyrocket my excitement for MOS 2 (considering i highly disliked MOS). I'm happy Fury Road put Miller back where he should always been - directing A class blockbusters.

Bring it on... ultimately, this project will take much of his time in the number of years. So hopefully it doesn't push Mad Max too far back, even though he said the script is already done.

If Fury Road is any indication, the script is the easy part.

While I'd much rather see him do another Mad Max, I wouldn't be opposed to this. At least there's a chance it would be less terrible than the first one.

If this is for real then this is great news. He delivered one of the two best films of this summer with Fury Road and based off that I would love to see what he could do with a Superman film.

I hope they don't call this film Man of Steel 2 though; would be more creative if they called it the 'Last Son of Krypton' or something along those lines.

I thought it was a good move for them to call it Man of Steel as it was creative in itself. Compared to calling it superman:something etc. Sort of like when they moved away from BATMAN to THE DARK KNIGHT. Man of Steel is a great title. but Agreed it shouldnt be MAn of Steel 2 but maybe a mix of what you suggested

Man of Steel: Last Son of Krypton etc

Yeah, I always thought that it would be nifty if they took the Batman route and used Superman's different nicknames as the future titles. "Man of Tomorrow" for the next one, then "(Last) Son of Krypton" for the third installment. We'll see, I suppose

Regardless, yay if Miller is in. I'm sure the Mad Max cast and crew aren't exactly chomping at the bit to jump back into the next one anyway, if the stories about Fury Road's shoot were any indication.

lol

I posted this the other day when I said that he wouldn't do Zorro because the rumor was (and still is a rumor) that he was doing this.
