Jonah Hill to star in Superbad meets Adventures in Babysitting

Sometimes the pairing of a director and star is enough to make you want to see a certain movie without any more information. Such is the case (at least for me) with the pairing of Jonah Hill and David Gordon Green. The SUPERBAD star and PINEAPPLE EXPRESS director will team up for the Fox comedy THE SITTER based on a script by Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka.

Fox picked up the script about a year ago for their now defunct genre label Fox Atomic. Jonathan Levine (THE WACKNESS) was attached to direct but he moved on to the Seth Rogen dramedy I’M WITH CANCER and the studio was lucky enough to settle on the considerable directorial talents of David Gordon Green. It’s something of a coup for Fox who hasn’t had a great adult comedy in quite some time.

The project is described as SUPERBAD meets ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING and while I suppose that’s true to some degree, as with all quick comparisons, there’s much more to the story than that. The script is one of the funniest I’ve read in a long time and reads like something that was written with Jonah Hill in mind (you can almost hear the dialogue coming out of his mouth). It’s also much darker than anything in ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING as the kids are slightly weird to say the very least (not to mention his girlfriend is a cokehead).

With 21 JUMP STREET all set with a release date, it’s possible that film could go first with this film shooting after. Hill can be seen this summer in GET HIM TO THE GREEK and CYRUS while Green’s next film, YOUR HIGHNESS, hits theaters in October.
