Joseph Gordon-Levitt grows up to be Bruce Willis in the teaser trailer for Looper

Apr. 12, 2012by: Niki Stephens

Following one stupid trailer for a trailer right after another, the actual teaser trailer for LOOPER is here.

Somehow in the future, Joseph Gordon-Levitt becomes Bruce Willis. I won't try to figure out how that happened. My only guess is if you put strands of bad ass, charisma, and a bit of swagger in a petri dish that's the final result. It's science. Can't argue with that.

I can report that this teaser is freaking awesome. If this is only a teaser, then we have a real treat in-store when the full thing arrives. Check it out below and if you want to download the HD version, head on over here.

Synopsis: "In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented - but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a "looper" - a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) - is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good... until the day the mob decides to "close the loop," sending back Joe's future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination. The film is written and directed by Rian Johnson and also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels. Ram Bergman and James D. Stern produce."

I'm sorry, but this looks sooooo campy. And JGL looks weird, doesn't he? I just don't like how they're marketing the movie at all. Really? 3 teasers to promote a teaser? Ridiculous!

I think it looks OK, but yes, I have to agree..JGL does look really weird...looks like somebody else entirely through most of it!

1 or 2 more qualitative films from Rian Johnson and he'll be right up there in my top 10 directors list.

What a great fucking teaser.

nice

looks pretty cool. I watched A River Runs Through It a little while ago. Nice to see Gordon-Levitt didn't end up becoming a mess cause he started acting when he was a little kid.

This one looks too good, neat concept. Cant wait .. September is too long a wait.
JGL looks weird with his lips and eye make-up to look like Bruce Willis, but still kicks major ass.

Trailer was well worth the wait and I'm sure the film will be well worth the wait from that glimpse of the film.

Bruce Willis and JGL in a time travel action flick? If this movie sucks, there is something seriously wrong with Hollywood.

Looks awesome! Though just not a fan of the Gordon Levitt/Bruce Willis make up...I get it, but he kinda looks like a Dick Tracy villain.

Calling the twist right now...

Note: I have not seen the movie, this is just an educated guess. Given that targets sent back are tied up, hooded, and without weapons, since Bruce Willis is none of those things, he was not sent back by the mob. More likely he sent himself back to escape the mob and team up with his younger self to defeat his enemies in the past.

Good theory.

We know for a fact he knew he was going to be in that situation as he had armor on his back to protect himself from the shot.
I can see the film being a big headfuck either way :P

I don't think that was armor. The first victim had it too. I think it's money.

@rbevanx - that "armor" isn't armor, but rather gold plates that the future mob guys stuff inside the victim's jacket as payment to the loopers in the past. the fact that he uses it as protection shows that either (a) he remembers his Looper-past and knows the gold plates are there or (b) he just knows that the mob guys stuff something in his back and turns to uses it as a shield

I'm in for Rian Johnson more then I am for JGL. And I love JGL. Just saw 50/50, the guy's definitely a huge talent. But "Brick" was awesome and I thought "Brothers Bloom" was criminally underrated. I had no expectation of this being a hit when I first heard about this movie, but I could actually see this doing pretty well, especially if JGL's star continues to rise after TDKR (and Lincoln I guess). Damn great year for sci-fi (hopefully). This, Prometheus, Total Recall, Gravity, Cloud Atlas, MiB

The thing I love the most...

I love that the person travelling back in time just instantly appears out of thin air. No crazy sci-fi tunnel, no destruction, nothing. Just poof...love the simplicity!

Looks awesome but one thing...

Seems like a bit of a paradox to me. If the younger Joe kills his older self 30 years in the past, he would still grow old and the process would repeat all over again in an endless loop depending on what you believe. Interesting though.

The point is that the future mafia wants the 50 year old version dead. They don't care about him up to that point. Maybe he has information they don't want spread. Sure the 20-something Joe would know how he died, but he wouldn't know why and have only a vague idea of when that would happen. You could argue that his morale would drop quite a bit knowing he was going to get executed eventually, but being in the business he's in, I'm sure that's actually a pretty nice relief knowing he'll be able

Plus it looks like most of the time travelers are hooded, so he theoretically shouldn't know who he was killing in the first place.

The biggest question is whether Future Joe remembers trying to kill himself when he was in his 20s.

JGL + Bruce Willis + potential for a total mindfuck = I'm there. Also, Bruce Willis needs to do more of these off-kilter projects, instead of sleepwalking through the next B-grade vehicles for an easy paycheck.

Love the music to the trailer. I'm completely digging JGL acting, complete dedication in capturing Willis.
