I got very excited and then very conflicted when I saw the news that Josh Brolin was joining SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR. On one hand, having Brolin reunite with his PLANET TERROR director ensured a good time would be had on the set, but it would come at the price of Clive Owen's involvement. Brolin will be taking over the role of Dwight, which Owen originated in the first SIN CITY film.

From the press release: Dwight is one of the favorite characters from Miller’s books and the 2005 film. In SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR, Dwight is hunted down by the only woman he ever loved, Ava Lord, and then watches his life go straight to hell. Chronologically, this story takes place prior to “The Big Fat Kill” (featured in the film FRANK MILLER’S SIN CITY) and explains how Dwight came to have a dramatically different face.

"Dwight is a constant character throughout the Sin City world and "A Dame To Kill For" is a defining episode in his life. We're looking forward to Josh's take on Dwight," said Rodriguez and Miller.

Dwight is an important character that connects many of Frank Miller's stories together and Brolin will do a fine job taking over the role. But, I am a big Clive Owen fan. Hopefully Owen will find a way to show up for a cameo. But, we have more casting news. On top of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Josh Brolin, we have word that Christopher Meloni is joining the SIN CITY sequel as well, playing a cop. Another great addition to the cast.

SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR still needs to cast the vital role of Ava since Angelina Jolie is no longer involved. Aside from that, the cast now includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Rosario Dawson, Jessica Alba, Jaime King, Michael Madsen, Dennis Haysbert, and Jamie Chung. It is slated to open on October 4, 2013.

I'm confused...

I guess it'll all make sense soon enough.

It's not impossible that both Brolin and Owen could play the same

character, before and after. Clive Owens is still listed on IMDb so that's likely what they're going for.

I'd suggest Charlize Theron as Ava. She'd kill in the role (pun intended).

Well, that answers one question I'd been having. How were they going to make Clive Owen be Dwight pre-surgery. I do still hope Owen shows up as post-op Dwight, but Brolin would be a natural fit for the Sin City world.

I'm going to go ahead and guess Meloni's playing Mort, which means he'll be Michael Madsen's new partner. Now, who's gonna play Agamemnon?

Clive and Josh are BOTH Dwight

Having read "A Dame to Kill For", I am reasonably certain that Clive Owen will not be limited to a cameo in the new Sin City movie...SPOILERS FOLLOW, BEWARE: Dwight is badly beaten during ADTKF and takes a long time-out to heal, during which time he returns to the story with a brand-new look. So Brolin will be playing the "before" and Owen will of course be "after" which is appropriate given his role in the prior film.

i dont know if its his face, the fact he never shaves, or his accent, or im just a hater, but i cant stand clive owen. his voice and his wannabe gritty look just annoys me. though, for consistency, id like him back in the role. not sure why, but brolin is stepping in, and i think hes a great choice.

Clive Owen

I'm a big Clive Owen fan too, moreso than Brolin and I was initially upset by this news too... but I looked it up and totally understand why they did it. The story that deals with Dwight in A Dame To Kill For (the movie) is a prequel story to the one we see in the original Sin City movie with Clive Owen. In the first Sin City movie we are told that Clive Owen's Dwight is a 'murderer with a new face' or something along those lines... and apparently it is literal. Josh Brolin is playing the

In the first Sin City movie we are told that Clive Owen's Dwight is a 'murderer with a new face' or something along those lines... and apparently it is literal. Josh Brolin is playing the original Dwight, who eventually (haven't read why myself as I don't want spoilers) gets extreme plastic surgery and with that gets a 'new face' and ends up looking like Clive Owen's Dwight. I like the news now, and perhaps we'll get a 'cameo' from Owen at the end showing the transformation, I'm sure we will. Then, hopefully, they'll make one final Sin City movie to close out the trilogy and have Clive Owen come back as Dwight in the only remaining story in which the character is featured 'Family Values'

Getting better and better

The follow up to Sin City has been one of my most anticipated movies for some time now. Lots of exciting news happening about its development.

Good news, bad news. Brolin is awesome, but then again, so is Owen. Shame, if Owen is out.
Spoilers, maybe:
But perhaps Brolin is the Dwight before his face reconstruction, and Owen is the "new face"? Hope so.
