Josh Peck, Josh Hutcherson, and Chris Hemsworth are Wolverines in these stills from Red Dawn

Aug. 1, 2012by: Niki Stephens

Wow, well, nice to see you again RED DAWN remake. Thought you were never going to grace us with your presence again.

But who is really ready for a remake of RED DAWN? I'm sort of partial to the Swayze myself. The film was delayed for awhile since MGM went through some financial woes. Then the enemy of the movie had to be changed. Josh Hutcherson explained, "Originally it was the Chinese. And then there was the thought that the Chinese own most of the companies making movies and that maybe it wasn't the best idea in the world."

Then the filmmakers re-edited and digitally altered the finished film. Now they take on the North Koreans (aided by the Chinese and Russians).

Two new stills from the film have been released showing Josh Peck, Josh Hutcherson, and Chris Hemsworth in character as the Wolverines. Wolverines! This is some macho shit, yo. The remake releases on November 21st.

In Red Dawn, a city in Washington state awakens to the surreal sight of foreign paratroopers dropping from the sky – shockingly, the U.S. has been invaded and their hometown is the initial target. Quickly and without warning, the citizens find themselves prisoners and their town under enemy occupation. Determined to fight back, a group of young patriots seek refuge in the surrounding woods, training and reorganizing themselves into a guerilla group of fighters. Taking inspiration from their high school mascot, they call themselves the Wolverines, banding together to protect one another, liberate their town from its captors, and take back their freedom.

so are we seriously going to see this hit theaters?

or is it just going to whimper on to DVD like so many remakes that are delayed for years before finally being released?

Don't mind the idea of a re-make

I found the first one to be a great idea but (I felt) was lacking in execution. I'm hoping this one takes a bit more of an action oriented, teenage Die Hard type of route or something.

I didn't even understand the need to 'update it' the first time around....the Chinese have no reason to invade us. We buy all their shit. That we do is precisely why World War III is never going to happen. We need them as manufacturers and they need us as customers.

But, at least there's some level of believability that they COULD invade if they wanted to. North Korea couldn't take over South Korea much less the West Coast.

There's only three ways to go, IMO, with a movie like this.

There's only three ways to go, IMO, with a movie like this.

1.) Keep the original 1980s setting, with the Soviets as the bad guys. Just tell a different story than the original, have it be about a bunch of inner-city kids. Urban guerrilla warfare. 'Red Dawn' meets 'Four Brothers.'

2.) Go over the top 80s action style and have the entire 'Axis of Evil' invade America with Russia & China's help....Iran, North Korea, Syria, Venezuela, basically everyone we don't like pools their resources and tries something. Neocon porn.

3.) A real 'cautionary tale' as a shady trillion-dollar multi-national corporation hires a few million 'private security contractors' to take over. Expensive mercenaries from all over the world including the US with the best weapons & gear. 99% porn.

I won't pay to see this....

A donkey punch right in my childhood....I love the original...it is a movie I own on multiple formats and still watch when I find it on tv. Damn Hollywood and their destruction of great films.

We're supposed to believe the North Koreans are capable of dropping paratroopers into the US? Blah. The best thing about the original is that cool shot of the paratroopers landing while the kids are in the classroom... everything else was "meh".

"And then there was the thought that the Chinese own most of the companies making movies and that maybe it wasn't the best idea in the world."
And one thought of this before they started filming.?

I can see this, like Tomorrow when the war began, being barely a blip on the radar.

Washington state, eh?

They better have a VERY good explanation why NORAD dosed off during this North Korean invasion. Then again, I heard this movie is being re-shot as comedy so I guess [link] is a must.

That should send shivers up people's spines, and all the more reason to keep it the Chinese.

I can't take this movie seriously after the whole order from China to change the villains to Koreans.

It's like what...3 years old now?
