Joss Whedon officially tapped to direct The Avengers 2

It looks like Disney does not want to mess with a good thing. During today's Walt Disney Investors Conference Call, it was confirmed that Joss Whedon will both write and direct the sequel to THE AVENGERS.
No further details have been revealed at this time, but it is obvious that Marvel wants to line up all of their films for Phase Two to match with the success of THE AVENGERS film. Whedon may also be positioning himself as a central force in the development of future Marvel products since THE AVENGERS seems to be the final stop for each phase of film releases the studio has been putting out.
It was also revealed that Whedon will be involved in the spin-off series inspired by THE AVENGERS that we mentioned recently. Could that series have more in common with the Marvel cinematic universe than previously thought?
I really have nothing negative to say about this decision. Whedon did a good job with THE AVENGERS and the box office proves it. He got great chemistry from all of the actors and I am confident that he will do it again.
Maybe he will even get more time for Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye. The actor recently told Hero Complex that "at the end of the day, 90% of the movie, I’m not the character I signed on to play. I’m literally in there for two minutes, and then all of a sudden… All I could really work on was the physical part of it all, because that didn’t change. That was just the biggest challenge to overcome in playing the guy. Also, we’re pretty much introducing a new superhero character to everyone in a movie where there’s a thousand superheroes. So there’s not a lot of back story or understanding we can really tell about who Clint Barton is, or Hawkeye, and is he working for SHIELD or not. There’s a lot of unanswered questions, even for me. And I was OK with that. At least I was still in the movie. And I was glad for that. The closest thing I could really link to was Scarlett [Johansson's] character, Black Widow, because they have a history. And that definitely plays in the movie, I think. And obviously, you can’t go into too much just because there’s so much story to tell, but you definitely get a sense that they’re connected, and that there’s something really, really important that ties them together. And I could try to summarize it, but it can go a lot of places. That excites me, though, that there’s room for other things."
Here is to hoping that Renner and Whedon can figure out a way to make more time for Clint Barton. While there is no date for THE AVENGERS 2, you can be sure we will let you know as more develops.
| Extra Tidbit: | Maybe I should write it up as an Unpopular Opinion column, but I didn't love THE AVENGERS. |

I think we can safely file this under . . .

OH YEAH!
Talk about news to make a person smile all night long. We knew Marvel wanted Joss back but it's good to see him wanting the challenge and even expanding on it. If anyone can build off the Avengers masterpiece it's Joss Whedon. I hope he knows he doesn't have to top it, just continue the story and build off Winter Soldier/Thor's Dark World and Iron Man 3.

GOOD CALL!
it would shock me if he wasn't invited back
I kinda hope the tv series will be a Hawkeye series. It seems like a step back for box-office leading, 2 time oscar nominated star Jeremy Renner but a quick 2 or 3 seasons of series tv drama could do very well and score highly with the fans. A show this big, tied in with a running franchise, if done right this could be the shakeup to

As for Hawkeye, if you're adding Ant-man and the Guardians of the Galaxy into Avengers 2 it might be even harder to give him more story with all the old and new characters. I'm sure the film will be great though.
