Journey 2 writers Mark and Brian Gunn to script Timecop reboot

The last time I wrote anything on the TIMECOP reboot was the announcement that they were actually doing it last year. Then I did a Cast This for the character of Max Walker originally played by the legendary Jean-Claude Van Damme. The schmoes top three choices included: Scott Adkins, Jason Statham, and Karl Urban. Any of those sound like good picks to you?

Unfortunately, I don’t have any casting news for you today. Instead we have a pair of writers set to pen the script. Mark and Brian Gunn, who wrote JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND will come up with a draft to dazzle us. Can they up the 1994 screenplay written by Mark Verheiden and Mike Richardson? I don’t know. That’s a thing of beauty.

The story set in the near future centers on a time when ”time travel is regulated by a police force. One officer (Van Damme) runs into a crooked politician (played by Ron Silver), who uses time travel to further his political career.” How do you replace Ron Silver? HOW? Source close to the project say that it will be tonally similar to Rian Johnson’s LOOPER, but heavy on the big budget end.

You ready for a new TIMECOP?

I liked the first one back in the day but it was not exactly a classics so have no issue with a reboot and it could be good fun. I don't think the star has to be a Martial Artist, even if they want to go down that road they seem to be able to train any one these days. Or oh oh oh what about a female lead?

Whoever stars in the title role, he/she better do the Split Kick a la Van Damme style.

Though I've always dug the original for what it is, I have to say that this is exactly the type of movie Hollywood should be remaking; flawed flicks with interesting concepts. Instead of making carbon copies of great foreign films no older than a few years and much beloved classics that send fans into an uproar.

This is such a random movie to reboot. If rather see a tv series than a new movie though. There are so many possibilities for it as a series.

I'm actually not totally opposed to a Time Cop reboot. They could in the direction of making it more of a team movie, fleshing out the inner workings of the Time Enforcement Commission. Corrupt TEC agents would be fun too.
