Jumanji 3 confirmed for December 2019 with Dwayne Johnson returning

JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE has to be the biggest surprise of 2017, making almost a billion dollars worldwide and actually being a pretty good movie to boot. No doubt a sequel is on the way to Sony’s biggest domestic earner ever, and we can expect the movie to arrive much, much sooner rather than later.

Sony Pictures head Tom Rothman spoke at CinemaCon yesterday where he confirmed that JUMANJI 3 is all set for Christmas 2019 and that Dwayne Johnson will be returning. No word yet on if the rest of the cast, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart and Jack Black, will return, but if they got Johnson back they will probably return as well. In this release slot, JUMANJI will once again take on STAR WARS as it goes against EPISODE IX, as well as the movie adaptation of WICKED and the upcoming MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE movie (which will probably get bumped).

On the production side, there’s no word yet on if Jake Kasdan will come back to direct, or if Sony will have to look elsewhere. Not wanting to mess with success, Sony may be working on a deal to get him to come back so as to keep the chemistry between director and cast as perfect as can be. Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner are currently working on the script.

Well, what do you guys think? I had a lot of fun with WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE and am very down for some more. I’m wondering if the movie will find the teen characters going back into the game as their avatars, or if the game spills over into the real world (like the first movie), and the teens have to interact with their avatars’ actual personas. Could go either way, and either scenario could be entertaining.  Just please have some more hippo attacks, please and thank you.

JUMANJI 3 is all set for December 2019.
