It may have seemed like Warner Bros. had put JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK aka DARK UNIVERSE on the back burner, since we haven't heard much about the project as of late, but according to The Tracking Board, the studio is moving forward with the film with Scott Rudin producing, and is now a priority for WB.

Sources tell the site that Rudin has been making updates to the script and talking to directors, and that Warner Bros. is aiming to start production in 2016. Niija Kuykendall, Nik Mavinkurve, and Jon Berg are overseeing JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK for the studio, and although Guillermo del Toro won't be directing, he's still attached as a producer.

TB has also heard that the plot of JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK will "involve a series of ancient tomes stolen by a madman hellbent on the destruction of humanity. When he learns of this, occult detective John Constantine seeks out a group of heroes that specialize in the mystic and arcane in order to save the world." It hasn't been announced yet which characters will appear in the movie besides Constantine, however Del Toro had mentioned Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, and Etrigan The Demon as likely members of the team. Matt Ryan won't be reprising his Constantine role though, as the character will be recast for the film.

The stie goes on to say that "the group established in Dark Universe will separately co-exist with the main Justice League team, much like how Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy operate individually from the Avengers," but the plan is to "eventually bridge the worlds and plant Dark Universe members in other DC titles." Who would you like to see direct JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK?
