Kal-el to visit Washington DC in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Aug. 22, 2014by: Alex Maidy

It looks like more and more sources are coming forward regarding new scenes being shot for BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE supporting the rumors that the film will deal directly with the fallout of the closing events of MAN OF STEEL. Specifically, it looks like Superman himself is being called to task for General Zod's actions in that film and the destruction of Metropolis.

Batman News shared some set photos from the Detroit set of BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE featuring taxi cabs, trucks, and buses with Washington DC related company names. Their sources also say that recently shot scenes in the Michigan city were dressed up to look like the nation's capital for a major action scene in the film.

Without giving too much away it involves Superman and the United States Capitol building in Washington D.C. (pictured above). Superman will have to answer for what happened at the end of Man of Steel. Half the public blames him for all the death and destruction. If it wasnt for Superman being there, General Zod would have never come to Earth.

How the scene turns into an action scene is unknown, but it could signal another movie with devastating effects on landmarks like the Capitol or the White House. It also seems vaguely reminiscent of IRON MAN 2 where Tony Stark was brought before a subcommittee that wanted his armor for military purposes. It will be interesting to see just how the political landscape of this fictional world ties in with the other characters like Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE opens on March 25, 2016.

I'm actually glad to hear that they're addressing this. How could they not? I hope it doesn't take up too much film time, but the battle did pretty much wipe out NY, and I'm guessing thousands of lives were lost. Even at the end of Avengers, people were starting to toss blame around. Like it or not, that's how people are.

This is a good set up for the eventual showdown between Supes and Bats. Maybe the appearance of Superman basically blew all the cover for metahuman existence that Bruce had been protecting? Or perhaps to 'pay for his sins' Superman became the government lackey reminiscent of his role in The Dark Knight Returns graphic novel.

Superman will probably get frustrated with all the questions and he'll snap the President's neck just to shut him up.

Sounds great

I just hope it isn't the major issue that needs to be resolved in the movie.

Sounds cool. I just hope they don't spend half the movie on the destruction of the city and superman apologizing and all that nonsense. Just spend 5 minutes on it and move on to the batman/superman relationship.

Those who complain about the destruction of Metropolis

Where were you when Vader blew up Alderaan? Talk about destruction, none of you squealers complained then.

cuz the internet wasnt created, plus people have a problem with superman being a part of that destruction without saving anyone or taking the fight elsewhere. But thats just me. Plus, Vader didnt have a previous history behind him,so in theory there wasnt anything to complain about......matter of fact, your whole point isn't a good example........why am I commenting again........too much to drink tonight

It was an inside job. Princess Leia should have been tried and convicted for it, yet even the fact that she was the direct child of the war criminal Darth Vader were lost on the general public's mind as the new Republic rejoiced over the destruction of two Death Stars and the subsequent death of Emperor Palpatine.

I hope the president says something along the lines of

I understand you didnt cause this destruction. We do not hold you responsible for the actions of others and if it were not for you. This world would no longer exist.

Just to absolutely piss off the haters.

You HAVE to watch this. It's all really funny, but the best part (besides the Pac Rim reference) is Superman losing his cool over the double-standard.

blurb

To accept Superman seriously in a modern film, they needed to define his limits. He can't be Mr Fixitall, he can't save everyone. That would be unrealistic and boring, and is one of the main reasons why the old Reeve movies don't hold up - there is simply no consistency to his powers. If Superman existed with the powers we typically associate with him, his battles with similar beings would unfortunately level cities. People would die. And this does ask a good question - would we really want

And this does ask a good question - would we really want him around? This is a brave and intelligent approach, and I hope MoS gets more appreciation as time goes by. I just re-watched it and it's grown on me considerably.

Man, so many people moaning and bitching about all the destruction from the first film. I would find it hilarious if that was Snyder's intention the entire time. My gut tells me the script was altered or written after the public backlash, but, holy shit that makes me chuckle.

If true, I'm glad to see that he will be facing heat for the destructive events of man of steel. Not because they bothered me, but because id like people shut the fuck up about it already. Hopefully this will help, like Ive said before, superman was kinda amateurish in man of steel and I believe that was intentional. He cant just gain such extraordinarily incredible power and know exactly how to handle it in such a short amount of time. If you notice when he shoots heat from his eyes in man of

I'm looking forward to him growing into the complete superman, and this story arc sounds like a good way to help him mature.

Let me guess, this is where the president orders him to take out Batman? Since they are obviously going to mimic the fight from The Dark Knight Returns, seems like they might mimic the setup to a certain degree. Still, I've read that fight in comics, and then saw it again in the animated movie, and I'm not at all that excited to see it for a third time with Ben fucking Affleck.

Why do you go to every single DC related story to bash it? How about not bother to read these stories to begin with or are you just looking for attention?

Hmm if Supes is going to get the blame

That sounds very marvel-esque in giving the superhero the antihero position. That would be an unusual place for superman in general comics story lines. But yeah, if he is going to be put as the blame for this, this could mean a totally different reason for a battle between supes and bats. Maybe batman will have a reason to target supes now. But its all speculation right now.

It's not that unusual. In the DCAU, Superman was controlled by Darkseid and attacked. The whole Cadmus arc of Justice League Unlimited was because of that story in Superman the Animated Series, well along with the Better World story on Justice League with the Justice Lords. Here's a scene talking about it.

It makes sense. But it also makes for an establishing scene to show how Superman has grown since MoS as well. Like the public is clearly upset with Superman, and he just wants to announce to the world that he's aware of his mistakes and he's committed to making it right. Which would give him some pretty similar characterization to the comics. At the same time it can set up some conflict between Batman and Superman for the movie as well.

Actually it's more in line with what would actually happen if there was an incident involving a real life superman. A majority of the people would be scared/against him, others would cheer him and the government would try to gather all possible intelligence (like in MoS when he drops off the destroyed drone) to either destroy him or force his cooperation
