Karl Urban teases "great arc" for Skurge the Executioner in Thor: Ragnarok

It was recently announced that Karl Urban has been added to the cast of THOR: RAGNAROK as Skurge the Executioner, and while speaking with IGN, the actor explained why he was interested in taking on the movie. Urban then went on to say that his character will have a great arc in the threequel.

I read a fantastic script that was action-packed and full of great characters. When I heard who was involved -- and the cast list dropped yesterday -- and [saw] the opportunity to work with [director] Taika Waititi, who I think is one of the most brilliant directors coming through, I made the decision it was something that I wanted to be a part of. And the character is fantastic. He's got a great arc to him. Obviously I can't say too much about it, but I'm really thrilled to be a part of the Marvel universe and to be working on Thor: Ragnarok.

Urban also said that he’s been researching Thor comics in preparation for the role, and although he'll be going bald to play Skurge, he won't have to shave his head until he's finished making the press rounds for STAR TREK BEYOND. Unfortunately, the actor declined to comment on if he has signed on for multiple Marvel movies.

THOR: RAGNAROK is scheduled to be released on November 3, 2017, while Urban can be seen next in STAR TREK BEYOND on July 22, 2016.

Wait... what???

That kid is Skurge? LMFAO

Skurge needs to be about 3 times his size to be justifiable.

He's one of those actors whose been consistently part of big (or cult) movie franchises but has somehow not gone up a level. Dredd was great and should have launched a successful franchise he could lead..but I guess...he just suffers from being, 'just one of those actors...". One of the greatest things about the MCU is the talent they've secured for their movies...but one of the worst things about that...is how some of it then gets greatly underused. In Urban's case, I'm no Thor follower but

the only thing I wanna hear about Karl Urban is that he's in a new Dredd movie, or that the tv show Almost Human has been renewed! I know that's just wishful thinking.

This franchise's main problem is that it's overcrowded and even with a few characters missing, it looks like it will still be the case this time around. Wwe know Skurge is there, we know Loki is back, we know you don't usually hire Cate Blanchett unless her part is important... Of the three Avengers with solo franchises, Thor is the one who had the least character developments and it looks like it will remain the same.

It's great that Marvel was able to find a place for him in the MCU. He's a very underrated, fan favorite actor who should be a bigger name by now based off his past films and roles (i.e. Star Trek, Dredd). I mean, if we can't have him back in a Dredd sequel, then seeing him in more Star Trek films or in a Marvel film is the next best thing.

I just hope he isn't a one and done villain; if that's the direction they take with his character.
