Kate Beckinsale to join Mark Wahlberg smuggling Contraband

I have a hard time separating out Kate Beckinsale from her role in the "why is this a series?" series UNDERWORLD, and when I do, I remember that her big break was in PEARL HARBOR. And seeing those are her two most memorable roles, I would say she hasn't quite lived up to her potential yet, though as she's extremely hot, I'm rooting for her.

Latino Review reports that a new upcoming role for her (other than the long delayed UNDERWORLD 4) will be opposite Mark Wahlberg in CONTRABAND, a remake of an award-winning Icelandic movie called REYKJAVIK-ROTTERDAM which is getting an Americanized version because what, we're supposed to read subtitles? Please.

Here's the story:

The plot centers on a security guard and former alcohol smuggler on the Iceland-Netherlands route who is tempted back into illicit business by a dubious friend after encountering financial problems. The original, which Oskar Jonasson directed, was Iceland's submission for the 2009 foreign-language Oscar race and won five of that country's film awards. Aaron Guzikowski, the writer behind 2009 Blacklist spec "Prisoners," is penning the script.

So it's got solid source material but are Beckinsale and Wahlberg the two dramatic powerhouses to bring this to life? Not so sure about that, but I'll give it a chance.

Extra Tidbit: We need more female action stars, someone write a non-vampire themed adventure for Beckinsale to star in! Preferably where she fights Milla Jovovich.
