Katheryn Winnick The Dark Tower Stephen Merchant Wolverine 3

For quite some time it felt very unlikely that Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" series would ever get a live-action adaptation. Numerous production issues led to the project changing hands from J.J. Abrams to Ron Howard before finally landing on Nikolaj Arcel's (A ROYAL AFFAIR) doorstep. Now that THE DARK TOWER has officially begun filming with Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey, I suppose it's finally safe to uncross your fingers. THE DARK TOWER continues to fill out its cast and Variety has the scoop on the latest member of this much anticipated film.

The outlet reports that Katheryn Winnick (Vikings) has joined the cast of THE DARK TOWER, but at the moment, the identity of her character is being left a mystery. THE DARK TOWER follows "a wandering knight (Idris Elba) who is the last hope of the fallen land of Mid-World. He is charged with finding the Dark Tower while battling his nemesis, the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey)." Also starring in the film are Tom Taylor as Jake Chambers, Jackie Earle Haley as Sayre, and Fran Kranz as Pimli, the right-hand man of The Man in Black.

Moving on to other casting news, Deadline has announced that Stephen Merchant (Hello Ladies) is set to join the cast of the upcoming WOLVERINE sequel. Much like Winnick's role, it's still a mystery who Stephen Merchant will play in the film, but as a fan of his exceedingly awkward googly eyed shenanigans, I'm curious to see what he'll do in a superhero film. The as-yet-untitled WOLVERINE 3 will be Hugh Jackman's last time out as the character, so I'd imagine that they're doing everything they can to make it a memorable one. In addition to Jackman, WOLVERINE 3 will also star Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier, Boyd Holbrook as the lead villain, and Richard E. Grant, who recently joined the cast as a "villainous mad-scientist type."

THE DARK TOWER is scheduled for a February 17, 2017 release, while WOLVERINE 3 will hit theaters on March 3, 2017.

DT Character

My guess is Susan, Roland's past love, or the prostitute Allie from the bar in Tull in the first novel.

Susannah/Detta/Odetta doesn't show up until the second novel.

She's probably Susannah

I mean, shit, they've already ruined the whole thing by mis-casting the Gunslinger. The in-your-face racial issues between Roland (white, now cast black) and Susannah (black, probably now cast as white) won't play the way they did in the books. I'm still out.

Two things:

1. I am 95% sure that Boyd Holbrook is playing Daken or Wildchild (aka Weapon Omega) or there's a long shot that he's playing Trevor Fitzroy (none of which appear in the actual comic story line, but the first two are very important Wolverine characters that I can see them introducing since this is the final film and Fitzroy just fits in very well plot-wise and would provide an easy out for the positive note that I assume they'll want to end the trilogy on).

#2: While I am a Marvel fan and an X-Men fan and particularly a Wolverine fan, I honestly am not a fan of the actual Old Man Logan storyline at all and how they are going to faithfully adapt it when they can't use 90% of the major characters from the comic (Hulk and Red Skull are the two main antagonists, Hawkeye and his daughter are two of the main supporting characters) is beyond me, so I imagine we'll get a loose adaptation, i.e. a post-apocalyptic Wolverine story meant as a subtle cash in on the recent success of Mad Max, which is actually totally fine by me.

I hope Merchant won't be playing the comedic sidekick at all in this.

And it would be nice if we got a confirmation of Schreiber joining this film to reprise Sabertooth.

No, it'd be nice if we got confirmation that Tyler Mane was returning as Sabretooth. Can Tyer Mane act? No, well I mean not very wel--... well, okay he can't. But does Sabretooth need to act? Not if there's other villains around. He just needs to be big and freaking scary. Which Liev Schreiber, talented actor that we is, never even came close to.
