Kathleen Kennedy leaves Jurassic Park 4 as producer, film still on target for 2014

Feb. 18, 2013by: Alex Maidy

File this news under "duh" since there was little chance of her staying on board, but Kathleen Kennedy has left JURASSIC PARK IV as producer. Deadline reports that her husband, Frank Marshall, tweeted the news.

@LeDoctor: Ms. Kennedy has moved onto Star Wars and will not be producing JP4. Shes traded raptors for TIE fighters.

JURASSIC PARK IV was announced last year as locking into a release date of June 13, 2014 with Kennedy/Marshall producing as they had with the prior entries in the series. Steven Spielberg is attached as executive producer. The script being used comes from Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver who wrote RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. No cast or director has been named.

It is unclear if JURASSIC PARK 4 will follow the previously leaked plot involving human/dinosaur hybrids fighting the war on drugs or a more traditional sequel returning us to the island home of the prehistoric beasts.

Kathleen Kennedy has her hands full as new president of Lucasfilm as she brings the STAR WARS saga back to the big screen. I would assume anything she was working on with her husband will be taken off her plate as she focuses on EPISODE VII and beyond.

Here's an interesting story of my own:

A group of terrorists (leaded by Michael Fassbender) invade the islands for the purpose of taking some of the most dangerous dinossaurs and releasing them on major world cities. For that they kidnapp "Laura Dern" character to help them understand the procedures to capture and take them from the islands.

JP4

JP4 is kind of flogging a dead dinosaur so to speak as much as I love the series. I have tried to think of logically where the series could go and I recall that in JP1 they mention a trial park in Africa that preceded the island then nothing else is mention of it through all 3 films. What happened to this particular park? Could there be large predator dinosaurs wandering around in the deep remote parts of Africa? This would be a cool film...

Tie Fighters?

Was that a Frank Marshall Freudian slip? Does he know something we don't? Will we see Tie Fighters again in the sequels...?

It means Kathleen Kennedy has left the Jurassic Park films for the Star Wars films.

Time for Jurassic Park to get the "Fast Five" treatment. Bring back a lot of the former cast, get a good script in the spirit of the original film, but also willing to try something a little new (not dinosaurs with guns).

brain storming....

Come up with a story were a group of armed soldiers (seals maybe) are stranded on the island and are trying to survive. No experts on dinosaurs, no guides, just a group of men trying to find a way off the island. Sounds simple but what happens to the character would be anything but. That's just a silly idea

I reckon she'll be busy with Star Wars. I hope Jurassic Park 4 stays on track, I'm really looking forward to it.

I can't wait to see this. I love the Jurassic Park films. Just have all of the original cast come back ( or just Neill and Goldblum) back and it will be great.

I'm calling it: It'll be the best JP film after the original. Not that 2 & 3 won't be hard to beat...

as long as Goldblum is back in a starring role

I honestly don't care who's producing, or even directing (well to a certain extent at least)

Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III were great--Part 2, not so much. I still have faith in this!

I also like 3. But I'd say its on par with 2. Both pretty disappointing compared to the original...

has potential

but without Spielberg or Kennedy's participation, the film now looks more like JP3 and less like a 21st century reboot. The film is not dead yet, but with a due date fast approaching and the studio side swiping it for their B-team to handle, it's looking less and less appetizing

Dammit

First JJ, now Kathleen. Sigh. Oh well. Rise of...Apes had a great script, so im stoked for a new JP. Fresh perspective on the original concept, perhaps? Director and cast are also important. Mr. Spielberg is our only hope.

With any luck, this project will fizzle and die.

I really don't think we need another JP movie but that's just my opinion. I'm more interested in the re-release of the original.
