Kathryn Bigelow’s Bin Laden film snags Joel Edgerton, Jessica Chastain and more

Kathryn Bigelow is mobilizing her so-called KILL BIN LADEN film, lining up an impressive cast to star in her HURT LOCKER follow-up. Joel Edgerton, Jessica Chastain, Jason Clarke, Chris Pratt, Mark Strong and Edgar Ramirez have all signed on to star in the film, which will follow the Navy SEAL Team 6 hunt and capture of Osama Bin Laden.

Edgerton had been rumored to be starring for some time but his participation was in doubt when he was negotiating to star in the 300 sequel BATTLE FOR ARTEMISIA. But those negotiations fell through and Edgerton quickly circled back to BIN LADEN.

Chastain, who was in just about every movie released this year, also had to turn down a high-profile project to get the gig. She had been in talks to co-star with Tom Cruise in Universal’s OBLIVION but now it looks like she’ll pass on that project to work with Bigelow.

Sony Pictures has the film set for a December 19th release, deliberately scheduling it after this year’s November elections. It’s just one of many films looking to capitalize on the popularity of the Navy SEALs (Disney even tried to trademark “SEAL Team 6”) but considering the talent in front of and behind the camera, this looks to be the one to beat.
